Best scenes of the show? For sure.
This scene was absolutely incredible. Michaela, Grace, and Lorraine absolutely killed this scene. It was stunning, full of heart and gave me chills. Reminded me what made me fall in love with the show in the first few episodes. By far, one of the most amazing scenes in the show, period.
In the hallway, Patricia asks if she called the adoptive parents. Sarah says she doesn’t even know what Katie wants. In the hospital room, the entire Village family is there. Love is the thread that connects us all, indeed.
Patricia tells Katie she’ll see her soon and I don’t have enough tears in my body. Gah, forget couples and that sort of thing, this is what I signed up for!
AND FINALLY, Katie and Sarah officially make up. I am so happy; this is everything I could’ve wanted and expected out of a finale thus far. I have a sinking a suspicion that this is all going way too well though. Anyone else?
“You are what gives my tragedy meaning.”
Sarah and Nick also get to talk a little bit, where she tells him that Katie wants to see him. Don’t mess this up, Nick. This is your moment to start making a change in all of their lives. You need this just as much as everyone else. In the room, it’s definitely tense at first. They finally come to some common ground and he tells her that she gave his life meaning again after losing so much.
Then, Katie tells Sarah she wants to see the baby. Placing bets now that she ends up keeping him. She has the support she needs anyway now, she can do it.
Ben and Dana talk at the church and she tells him he should be happy, and if that means traveling to Canada, he should do it. She says his son would want him to be with the woman he loves. Again. I don’t need my emotions; the tears are FINE.
Patricia and Ron remind everyone why they are the best couple on the show, time and time again. The love and passion these two have and the understanding of one another is like nothing else. She goes into surgery.
“Hard and happy aren’t mutually exclusive.”
Sarah and Katie see the baby and she immediately seems smitten with him. She tells Sarah that she can do this, that she wants to keep the baby. Sarah admits that the baby might’ve been without oxygen for too long and that it might be hard. She tells her mother that hard and happy aren’t mutually exclusive and I’m officially a puddle of goo. THIS DANG SHOW. I’m also glad that this is a storyline they might explore.
Okay, EXCUSE ME. Why the hell is Sarah kissing Ethan? This is not okay. You can’t do this to me after you just made insanely beautiful television for twenty minutes.
Enzo seeks out the help of Macklemore to propose to Gwendolina. He stands outside her apartment and sings “Can’t Help Falling in Love” with an ensemble of musicians. Annnnnnnd, she says yes! Enzo is putting a ring on it!
Full Circle
Katie gets a visit from Nick and asks if he would like to hold the baby. We switch to a montage of different Villagers. Gwendolina and Enzo embrace, Nick and Katie bond with the baby. Patricia goes into surgery. Sarah goes into the room with Katie and Nick, while Ron stays outside. Nick talks to the baby, and he asks if he has a name. She says his name is Cooper. OH MY GOD, yes! Perfect choice for a name. Sarah asks if she can hold him. … AND THE SHOW IS OVER?
BUT I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS!
Okay, but for real. I could not have asked for a better season one finale. Since we don’t know if the show is canceled or renewed, that’s what I’m going with. Regardless of how it goes, any fan of this show can be mostly satisfied with how it leaves off, whether it is the end or just the beginning. This was by far the kind of finale I could hope for in a show I love. It gave fans closure, but also left open questions, while breaking and mending your heart all in one.
Was the show perfect all season long? No. The last few episodes were a little rough if I’m honest. I feel like it focused too much on couples and pairings, not enough of what the show promoted in the first few episodes. That said, they truly brought the show full circle and reminded me what made me love it so much. Many congratulations to Mike Daniels, Jessica Rhoades, the cast and crew. Love is truly the thread that connects us all.
See our prediction on renewal/cancellation!
