The Purge Episode 3: The Urge to Purge

The Purge Episode 3

Episode 3 of The Purge aired September 18th, on USA Network.

As if Purge Night wasn’t scary enough, it just got way more terrifying.

Miguel & Penelope

As Penelope gets closer and closer to her Giving, we get a series of flashbacks where we see her and Miguel as children with their mom and dad. We see how happy they all were before the Purge, and then how they had to listen and watch as their parents were killed on Purge night.

That’s why Penelope is going through with The Giving, she thinks she’s going to be reunited with her mom and dad. She steps off the bus where a group of Purgers dressed as glow in the dark nuns wait for her. But instead of killing her like the others, they throw a hood over her head, put her in their camper truck, and take off with her.

Meanwhile, Miguel, who got help from Pete the Cop once Pete realized that Miguel had won the gauntlet and had that nice, shiny Chevelle to offer in trade (I like Pete, I hope they show more of him), finally manages to track down the bus—but it’s too late, Penelope is already gone. Yo, Miguel, she’s in the camper truck full of nuns you just passed.

Rick & Jenna (and Lila)

After that hot kiss with Lila, Jenna breaks the news to her that she’s pregnant. Lila says she’s happy for her, but clearly she’s devastated. Jenna assures Rick that Lila is okay, but we get the idea that for Rick this whole threesome thing was all fun and games, but Jenna and Lila had a deeper relationship, they had serious feelings for each other—and I think they still do.

Rick meets Mr. Stanton in his office, but Stanton wants Jenna there, too. Once Jenna arrives, they talk business and arrive at a deal, Stanton is gonna invest 75 million and in return he gets a 35% share. He also wants them to join the NFFA, but first, a little surprise: Stanton has a man dragged into his office, gagged and bound. Stanton says he was an employee for ten years, but was stealing from the construction sites. He takes out a gun and offers it to Rick to “do the honors.” Jenna is extremely disturbed and tells Stanton that they don’t do this. He apologizes, takes the gun back, and shoots the man right in front of Jenna and Rick.

Jenna freaks out and tells Rick she wants to leave, but of course they’re under lock down, they can’t leave. Jenna says she will not take Stanton’s money now. Rick agrees, but it’s evident that he doesn’t feel as strongly about this as Jenna does. For Rick, Stanton’s money is “the deal of a lifetime.” Makes me wonder what Rick would have done had Jenna not been there.

Later, Jenna disappears with Lila and Rick can’t find her.

Jane

Our girl Jane is in for one heck of a shock tonight.

After closing the deal, the team starts to celebrate and is interrupted by David via live feed. He’s not happy that Jane didn’t tell him the deal had closed. There’s a tense moment when someone rings David’s doorbell and he goes off to answer it. Jane is expecting something to happen to him, but he comes right back, it was the pizza guy. He congratulates Jane on a job well done and gives her a creepy wink and a promise to see her the next day. That guy really makes me feel uncomfortable.

Later, Alison and Mark, who have been feely touchy all night, disappear. Jane goes looking for them in a dark hallway of offices. She hears moaning coming from one of the offices, and yeah, I totally thought Mark and Alison were making out. Jane opens the door and, holy crap, Alison is on top of Mark, stabbing him to death. Jane screams and runs over to Mark, but he’s obviously dead. She’s in shock, she did not see that coming (and neither did I), but Alison is just worried about her promotion.

The episode ends with our masked man from last episode—he goes into a house where Purgers are attacking a terrified woman. Boom! He shoots both of the Purgers, tells the woman her house has been breached and takes her with him in his van. Hmmm … who is this masked man?

Drop me a comment and tell me what you thought about tonight’s episode: What do you think is gonna happen to Penelope? Why did they take her and not kill her like the others? Is Jenna in love with Lila? How bad do you think Rick wants that money? Any thoughts on the masked man?

The Purge returns September 25th, 10/9 C, on USA Network.
