Younger Season 6 Episode 2
In this episode, Flush with Love, we see our gang trying to navigate through these new roles they’re now in and dealing with some new dynamics.
Let’s Start with Liza & Charles
We first see Liza (Sutton Foster) and Charles (Peter Hermann) walking into a fancy literacy event that everyone is at. This is the first time they’ve been seen out in public as a couple. Charles hates the idea of pretending to be dating a 26-year-old, but what can he do?
At this party, Diana is giving them the cold shoulder. Charles decides to address her now and he apologizes to Diana for leaving Empirical without telling her first. He states he owed her that much and more. Charles mentioned Quinn wanted a millennial running the company and that it wasn’t his decision. Diana says she heard Charles say that if it were up to him Diana would be running the company – which he does not agree too.
After hearing Charles’ explanation of things to Diana, Liza questions whether he thinks Kelsey has what it takes or did he only give her the job because Quinn wanted a millennial. Charles assures her the trusts Kelsey, he gave her the millennial imprint after all. He believes in her and says she’ll get there. Liza comes to Kelsey’s defense telling him about the plan to block Quinn’s book by adapting the screenplay. He doesn’t think that a great idea. Anytime there’s a regime change, you take out the trash first. If Quinn’s book bombs, it wouldn’t hurt Kelsey, everyone would blame the old management. If the second book is bad, that’s on her and it’ll stick.
Our Girl Kelsey
Not only does Kelsey have the stress of a company that’s losing money, now Liza and Kelsey are trying to decide what to do with Quinn’s book. It has absolutely terrible reviews from the focus group, Quinn is refusing all of Liza’s notes on the book and Kelsey wants to push the book. This problem child of a book cannot be the first thing she publishes, she needs a strong start. So Kelsey and Liza met with Quinn over lunch to tell her the book needs more work. Quinn refuses to let them push her book out, reminding them that she saved their company and put Kelsey in the position she’s in.
Kelsey questions how she’ll be able to do this job if she can’t stand up to Quinn. So she devises a plan to publish a new book before Quinn finishes hers. She’ll reverse engineer a current screenplay they’re involved with into a book. This way, Quinn’s book gets a bump and Kelsey will get the win.
Kelsey later finds out Liza has been discussing her decisions with Charles and that he doesn’t agree with Kelsey’s plan. She’s upset Liza is discussing her decisions with Charles, feeling like they don’t believe in her. So Kelsey sets up a dinner with Quinn to tell her they aren’t ready to publish the book. Quinn is definitely a force of her own and states Kelsey can’t push the book because it’s tied to her campaign to run for Senate. Kelsey stands her ground and eventually the two decide to make a deal. Publish Claw now and if it’s a flop, Quinn will disappear and we’ll never hear from her again. If it’s a hit then Kelsey will look like a genius publisher from day one. Kelsey agrees to this deal as long as it’s with writing.
Diana Hurts Enzo
We get the feeling that Diana is still not too pleased with this new change but she’s trying to be a team player. I just love how feisty she always is. In the meantime, a photo of Diana kissing her man Enzo has gone viral. Most likely because sewage covered him, but that’s so last season’s story. Our girl Lauren, the publicist, wants to capitalize on it and write an article about their love story. Diana is not into this idea at all; but in true Lauren fashion, she continues on with it anyway.
I’m glad we saw Charles apologize to her at the literacy event. She’s never been great at hiding her crush on Charles and she sort of lets it slip by saying “I just always hoped that maybe one day you and I would. . . . Run the company together”. Good save Diana.
As they’re walking home from the event, Diana is discussing this with Enzo. She does let it slip that she had a crush on him and she had always thought she’d end up with him. Someone cultured, sophisticated, man of the world; “But now I’m with you” she says. She says she’s a realist not a romantic. OUCH. Poor Enzo gets hurt and rightly so. He says maybe he’s settling too, for someone who’s just taking what she can get.
The next day, when Diana finds out Lauren ran with their story anyway, she calls the paper and edits the article to speak directly to Enzo and writes about the dreams you used to have about your future and how life has a way of having a bigger imagination. Life gives you more than you thought but maybe not in the package you expected. It’s deeper than that, it gives you what you can’t breathe without.
Thankfully Enzo sees the picture and the article and reads what Diana wrote to him the two reunite.
The Josh and Claire Situation
I’m not loving this Claire chick and apparently, neither is Maggie. However, she’s got Josh’s baby in there so we’re going to give her some grace. I’m guessing somehow Claire is out of the picture this season, leaving Josh to be a single dad BUT that’s one of the many ways this could go. Let’s focus on what we know now.
Josh has Liza meet have the local baby goods store and they go over the registry, which I guess is fine since she promised to be there for him. I would think Claire would be there but it doesn’t look like these two are planning on being anything more than co-parents at this point.
So of course, let’s have a baby gender reveal party. Now why anybody chose Liza to hold the balloon is beyond me, but she somehow lets go of the balloon and it floats away. It’s at this very moment that Claire announces the baby is coming and quick! So naturally, Maggie (say what?) and Josh ride in the Uber with Claire, legs spread eagle, baby crowning for Maggie and rushing to the hospital. As a mother myself, I don’t love these kinds of baby’s coming round the mountain types of scenes because they’re just not realistic. However, they are usually pretty funny. What I do love is seeing Josh so incredibly happy, head over heels in love, cradling this beauty perfect little baby. We later learn it’s a girl! Congrats Josh!
I See A Red Flag
Liza and Charles came to an agreement that they won’t ask about each other’s days. Liza doesn’t want to hurt Kelsey by reporting back to Charles and so he agrees not to ask and she won’t ask about his days. This is sure to be a recipe for disaster. What relationship can go without that kind of personal day to day information? We already see Charles working on some sort of secret deal with Zane. We also see Zane and Kelsey starting to rekindle part of their past relationship. So we have Kelsey and Liza working together, Charles and Zane working together and then the two couples forming. We can all see this is going to the cause of some drama, but who doesn’t love drama?!! I can’t wait for next week.
