There are lots of cool Easter Eggs and familiar names throughout that Hill House or Shirley Jackson fans will have fun spotting. But—

It’s So Much More Than a Homage to Shirley Jackson.
Much like Hill House itself, this series is also a living breathing thing of its own. Netlflix calls it a “reimagining” and that’s really what it is. Even if you have never read the novel, you could still settle right down into this series without being confused.

The Haunting of Hill House is Horror at it’s Best.
Let there be no doubt, this show is seriously spooky, with some chilling scenes that left me downright scared, like super scared. Really, really scared. However–

It’s Not Just a Horror Show.
The series is also a drama, about a very broken family. The characters are so well done, it’s easy to get connected emotionally and find yourself rooting for them, hoping they can somehow overcome their haunted lives.

Killer Cast and Crew.
Hill House boasts an incredible cast that includes Michiel Huisman, my favorite Carla Gugino, Timothy Hutton, and Kate Siegel—and the writing, directing, cinematography, and music are all incredible. I’d expect some nominations and awards out of this show.

It’s the perfect time of year to settle down into a nice, dark room and watch something spooky, and I can’t think of anything spookier than The Haunting of Hill House.
