- Mickey caught former detective Neil Bishop in a lie on the stand 15 years ago. Bishop’s detective career never really recovered, and he now works as an investigator for the District Attorney’s office and is currently assigned to the Julian La Cosse case.
- Mickey was served a subpoena to testify for Sly Funaro Jr. in Moya’s habeas corpus. Kendall Roberts was also served, but Mickey intercepted the paper on her behalf after Kendall swiftly agrees to Mickey’s representation. Kendall does not want to be associated with her former life as a co-worker of Glory Days.
- Andrea Freemann convinced Deborah Glass to allow the prosecution to offer her abusive ex-husband a plea agreement in the domestic violence case.
- Cisco tracked down Trina Trixx to get information about Glory Days. While there, Trina got a call from Sly Funaro, Sr. from prison. The Lincoln Lawyer spoke to him for a couple moments.
- In the conversation with Trina, a DEA agent named James De Marco is mentioned. Trina reveals that De Marco has been on a mission to take down Hector Moya, so much so that he gave Glory a gun to plant in Moya’s room.
- Mickey believes he is being followed or tracked because Sly, Sr. knew he was there when he dialed Trina’s apartment.
- Mickey and Andrea have been reluctant to refer to themselves as an actual couple.
- After getting some sleep, Lorna looked up the VIN from the Honda Civic solving the mystery of who the man in the hat is.

Man in the hat identified
Who was the man in the hat? As it turns out, it is Neil Bishop, the ex-cop who hates Mickey. Lorna ran the VIN the night before, did some digging, and found out Jake Houlihan, who signed off on a stolen Honda Civic, was Neil Bishop’s partner when they were in the LAPD. Mickey asks if there is a connection between Bishop and Moya that they don’t know about yet. Cisco says he will dig into it.
Mickey assigns Lorna the task of squashing Kendall Robert’s subpoena and assigns Cisco the task of investigating Bishop, Moya, and Agent De Marco.
Eddie volunteers to eat pasta
In the car, Eddie asks Mickey about Glory. Haller explains that he had hoped that with his help, she would have cleaned up and left her escort life behind. Eddie reminds Mickey that adults make their own choices and asserts that Mickey is not at fault. Mickey replies that he prides himself on being two steps ahead and, this time, missed the play. Seeing Mickey so down, Eddie offers to try a new Italian restaurant with the forlorn Lincoln Lawyer. Mickey replies that he must look really down if Eddie is willing to eat pasta.
Mickey’s First Flashback
Izzy puts a picture of Glory Days on the whiteboard, wearing a Los Angeles Dodgers hat that Izzy found on Glory’s Instagram page. Seeing the photo, Mickey flashes back to the first time he met Glory. She was strung out and paranoid that the man who killed Martha Renteria was going to kill her, too, after having already attempted it once before.
Mickey sits with her on the bathroom floor and explains that she will need to quit the drugs and get healthy in order for a jury to believe her testimony. He wants to help her if she is willing to accept it. She compliments his LA Dodgers hat and says that her dad was a Yankees fan, and Mickey Mantle was his favorite player. Mickey gives her the Dodgers hat as a gift.
Mickey’s Second Flashback
Mickey sees orchids in a vase at the office. He flashes back to a memory at Glory Days’ apartment. The only difference is that the ones Mickey saw in the office were pink, and when the scene changed, the orchids in Glory’s apartment were white—a great transition. This moment was a week before he had to prep her for trial and review her testimony. He assured her that would arrange for a hotel near the courthouse and tells her to be well rested. She agrees and calls him Mickey Mantle, a nice touch from the books.
Mickey’s Third Flashback
As a delivery guy knocks on a door, the Lincoln Lawyer flashes back to the memory of him knocking on the door of Glory’s hotel room the night before the Jesus Menendez trial. He goes into the room to see she’s gone. He calls Lorna to tell her Glory is gone, and Lorna asks if the Road Saints guy “Dennis” (who we now know as Cisco) is supposed to be watching her. Mickey had dismissed him because Glory seemed to be okay. But Glory left a note stating, “I can’t do it, Mickey Mantle. Sorry.”
The Cruz Waiver
Andrea gives Vanesa, the junior prosecutor assisting Andrea, an assignment on the Glass case. She needs to draft a summary of the Cruz Waiver and email it to opposing counsel. Andrea explains that with the court’s approval, a Cruz waiver allows a defendant who has pled guilty to be temporarily released from custody for a specific purpose, in this case for Scott Glass to go to his grandmother’s funeral. The waiver will allow him 24 hours out of custody. Of course, a primary task is to also to let Deborah Glass know that her abusive ex-husband will be out of prison, even with it being a brief period.
Andrea says she will call Deborah to let her know. She picks up the phone and starts dialing but is interrupted by her boss, Adam Suarez. Adam shares that he has her in mind as the replacement to head up Major Crimes as the position has recently become available. He compliments her ambition and hopes she will not do anything to make him reconsider. A staff meeting is about to start, and they must leave to attend it.
(I practically yelled at my TV for Andrea to make the call before attending the staff meeting!)
Cat saves the day
Izzy talks with Cat about her studio and how she would like Cat to teach dance lessons a couple of times a week hoping new star power would give the gym down the street some good competition. Cat has a better solution to Izzy’s problem. She suggests that the production company for her show subleases Izzy’s studio as a rehearsal space. Izzy’s studio would be a perfect space and an upgrade from the warehouse space currently being utilized. It would be great publicity for the “Letts Dance Academy” since they the rehearsals would be seen on the TV series.
Andrea’s Misstep
Andrea receives a phone call that Deborah Glass has been found dead in Elysian Park. She goes to the scene and talks with an officer who had detained a man running from the scene in bloody clothes. The suspect Scott Glass is sitting in the back of the police car. The officer believes Glass knew her routine and sat in wait for the attack.
Mickey visits Sly Jr.
When the Lincoln Lawyer barges into Sly, Jr.’s office, Sly threatens to call the cops. Mickey counters for him to go ahead, but he would in turn call the state Bar Association. Mickey would inform them that Sly, Sr. is “operating without a license” and that Sly, Jr. is “operating without a clue”. Such a great line! He could also mention his felonious act of faking a subpoena. The alternative is for them to cooperate with one another.
Sly, Sr. has a phone in Victorville, that he uses after lights when a guy who turns off the jammer for him. Mickey tells Jr. to let Sr. know Mickey will see him the next day and to enter his name on the visitors’ list. Mickey again warns Junior that if he fails to cooperate, he will reach out to the bar.
An Afternoon Snack
Izzy puts a bag on Lorna’s desk. Lorna opens the bag and the women collectively claim that the sandwich tastes like “victory, freedom, and vindication”. Did you see the name of the restaurant on the bag? I did, and it is Eggslut, located at Grand Central Market. Izzy asks how long the wait is for bar exam results. Lorna says three months.
Izzy also reveals that she has tiger tails from Donut Man, and they look terrific! Lorna partakes immediately.
Behind Enemy Lines
Mickey drops by Andrea Freemann’s office for an unexpected visit, and boy, does he get some looks of disgust from her colleagues. She leads him to her office and shuts the door and pulls the blinds. She scolds him because saying they have to be discreet. Mickey has tried to utilize discretion but still believes everyone at Haller and Associates already knows about them. Andrea comes clean, saying that Maggie knows as well. She mentions “a girl code”. She needed to be sure Maggie was okay with this development.
Mickey inquires as to how investigators are assigned to cases at District Attorney’s office. We know he is wondering if Bishop could have tried to get assigned to the La Cosse case. Andrea confirms the possibility of an investigator requesting assignment on a specific case. With this information in hand, Mickey offers Andrea a quick kiss and compliment before walking out of the office with more looks of disgust from Andrea’s colleagues.
Of course, Mickey draws Neil Bishop’s attention, who joins Mickey in the elevator. He asks Mickey what he is doing there, and Haller replies that he is dropping off paperwork on another case. Bishop does not believe him and warns that the Lincoln Lawyer’s clever tactics are not going to help him in this case. He suggests that Mickey go after a plea deal for Julian. As Mickey leaves the elevator, he tells Bishop that it’s sunny outside and recommends that he wear a hat.
Cisco Works on his swing
Cisco approaches Gabe, who is working at a mini-golf course but used to be a doctor for the Road Saints. Our favorite investigator requests information about Hector Moya and Neil Bishop. The “doctor” is reluctant to talk but ultimately speaks of Valley Homicide’s history with cartel activity and the possibility of Bishop having been assigned to that caseload.
A different kind of seal
While reviewing the case files, Mickey and Lorna make a shocking discovery at the same time. The seal on Kendall Roberts’s subpoena is fake. Mickey also suspects that he and Kendall were not the first ones served in the case. Perhaps Glory was the first to get a subpoena. Hector Moya didn’t kill Glory Days because he needed her. If she planted the gun, her testimony could get him out of jail.
Haller adds that Sly, Jr. filed Hector Moya’s habeas petition on July 29th. Logically, he would serve Glory Days first. But then two weeks later Glory is murdered suggesting that someone killed her to keep her from testifying. But who? Was it Bishop or De Marco? Cisco has looked into De Marco and reports that he’s a decorated agent with a sparkling clean record. The Lincoln Lawyer states that most DEA agents are “cowboys” and suspects that he is adept at covering his tracks if his record unblemished
Lorna warns that they are treading on dangerous ground. If they make accusations without proof, Forsythe will bury them in court.
The briefcase
Mickey allows the lady at the front desk of the assisted living center to search his briefcase; all she sees are files. She allows him to proceed to Seigel’s room, where Mickey pulls out the false bottom to reveal the hidden Italian subs from Mario’s in Glendale.
Legal Seigel recognizes the briefcase. He shares that Mickey’s father received it as a gift from Johnny “The Tooth” Russo in 1975. Seigel talks briefly about the mob and nicknames. Then they get down to brass tacks. Mickey claims he “can’t see the forest for the trees on this case”. He speaks of the “shady DEA agent, a crooked ex-cop, a cartel thug, a disbarred lawyer and his idiot son, and an innocent client in jail”.
After hearing and asking questions, Legal urges Mickey to readjust his view. He believes Mickey’s perceived guilt over Glory’s death is obscuring his view of the case. Legal tells Mickey, “You gotta let the ghosts go, or they will drag you under, and you’ll never be the lawyer you need to be.” Seigel has another powerful line saying, “But if you really got an innocent client to defend, then you gotta screw your head on fast because there’s no more noble a cause on this planet than to stand for the wrongly accused.” He finishes by imploring Mickey not to mess this up.
James De Marco pops up
DEA Agent James De Marco has remained in the shadows until the end of the episode when Mickey arrives back at the Lincoln to find the agent sitting in the backseat. With this unexpected move, has he done something with Eddie? Does his showing up now mean Haller and Associates could be on the right path?
