Week 6 in the NFL had some good and bad moments for multiple teams:
Pete and Mike have a great conversation about the top and bottom moments from around the world of the NFL.
NFL Week 6:
The Bad:
New York Jets:
Well, the New York Jets lost yet again. This week, they lost to the Denver Broncos in London. In fact, their offense was not operating at peak performance this week. Justin Fields went 9 of 17 for 45 yards in the game. However, he was sacked 9 times for losses of 55 yards. Meaning the net passing yards for the Jets were -10 yards. A horrible performance by Justin Fields, but is the play-calling to blame? There have been times this season when the team has been racking up passing yards with ease. What is going on with this past game?
Baltimore Ravens:
The Ravens dropped to 1-5 with a 17-3 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams started shaky, but put up a couple of touchdowns against a Ravens defense that seemed to improve since their last game. The Rams improved to 4-2 on the season with the win.
49ers Injury Woes Continue:
Fred Warner, a linebacker for the 49ers, sustained a dislocated and fractured ankle in the game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers yesterday, ending his season.
Cincinnati Bengals:
After starting the season 2-0, the Bengals have lost four straight games. They recently traded for veteran QB Joe Flacco from the Cleveland Browns. Flacco performed better than Jake Browning, who Mike went off about in last week’s NFL Mashup Podcast.
Miami Dolphins:
The Dolphins dropped to 1-5 on the season after losing to the Los Angeles Chargers yesterday. After the game, starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa stated in his post-game press conference that there is an issue with the team’s leadership. After being asked, he noted that some players have been showing up late to practices. It is not good when a team that has started rocky starts turning on each other.
A Head Coach Gets Fired:
After a 1-5 start to this season, the Tennessee Titans have fired Head Coach Brian Callahan. His overall record since being named the head coach was 4-19. The Titans’ offense has scored only 83 points in the six games this season. Mike McCoy is expected to be the interim head coach going forward.
The Good:
The Carolina Panthers put up their third straight win with a fantastic performance from their running back, Rico Dowdle. Dowdle had 239 scrimmage yards against the Dallas Cowboys, with 183 of those yards coming from his rushing attack.
The Seattle Seahawks improved to 4-2 with a win over the Miami Dolphins. In fact, the NFC West division is a tight contest between three of the four teams. The San Francisco 49ers lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers yesterday, so, record-wise, they are tied with the Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams in the NFC West.
Strong AFC Conference:
In the AFC, there are multiple teams with a record of 4-2 or better. If the Buffalo Bills win tonight, they will be tied for the #1 spot with the Indianapolis Colts. The 4-2 teams are the Los Angeles Chargers, Denver Broncos, Jacksonville Jaguars, and New England Patriots. The Pittsburgh Steelers are 4-1 after winning against the Cleveland Browns. The Steelers had their bye week last week. Which AFC teams are for real, or a mirage?
Another Monday Night Double Header:
Tonight features another two games. The Buffalo Bills face off against the Atlanta Falcons. And the Washington Commanders host the Chicago Bears. There is another double header of Monday night games next week as well. I miss the days when the only doubleheader night was the opening week of the NFL season.
Sunday Night Football:
The Kansas City Chiefs won against the Detroit Lions on Sunday Night. The Chiefs get their record back to even at 3-3 on the season. The Lions drop to 4-2 on the year, which is still an excellent record. The Lions face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in week 7 on Monday Night Football. The Bucaneers are 5-1 on the season—an epic matchup of two incredible offenses. The NFL suspends Lions safety Brian Branch for his role in a postgame fight on Sunday Night.
Playoff Predictions:
Pete and Mike make their playoff predictions in this week’s podcast. They predict how the playoff seeding will look at the end of the regular season. How will their predictions look at the end of the season?
