The Last of Us: Season 2 finale leaves Mike with a gasp.

Seattle: Day Three “Convergence”

Jesse and Dina:

At the start of The Last of Us season 2 finale episode, Jesse pushes the arrow through Dina’s leg. She gets bandaged up and rests. Dina tells Jesse she cannot die and refuses a drink of alcohol before Jesse pushes the arrow through.

Dina and Ellie:

After getting back to the theater, Ellie goes to Dina’s bedside. While Dina helps Ellie clean up, Ellie says she made Nora talk and that Abby is at a whale or wheel. Ellie then tells Dina what Joel did to the Fireflies before they got to Jackson. Dina hears the reason why Abby killed Joel.

Ellie and Jesse:

Jesse and Ellie have multiple moments alone during this episode as they travel around Seattle. Jesse and Tommy set up camp at a bookstore shortly after getting to Seattle. Jesse tries to understand why Dina declines a drink and says that she cannot die. He says Dina is pregnant, and Ellie acknowledges the claim. He is determined to get Dina and their unborn child out of the city. Ellie takes a book off a shelf inside the bookstore for when Dina’s kid is old enough to listen to her read it.

Fate tempted Jesse to run off with a girl and her family when they passed through Jackson on their way to Mexico a while back. He did not go because the town would look to him to take over when Marie could not. They hear gunshots, and the radio comes to life with someone saying a sniper has WLFs pinned down. Jesse and Ellie get to higher ground to see where the location is. Jesse knows the sniper is Tommy and wants them to get to his location to extract him from there. However, Ellie spots the aquarium, where she believes Abby is hiding, because there is a painting of a whale on the side of the building and a Ferris wheel nearby.

Ellie and Jesse have a battle of words, and they each go their way.

WLF and the Seraphites:

Isaac and Park discuss Abby’s whereabouts at one point. Park feels that the soldiers they have are enough, but Isaac says that the soldiers are just that—soldiers. They are not leaders. If anything were to happen to Park or Isaac, Abby would be the only one to have the strength to lead.

While Ellie searches for a boat at the docks, she sees a group of WLFs loading up into ships and taking off across the water towards an island. After taking a boat from the pier, Ellie gets wiped out by a large wave and winds up on the island. She encounters a group of Seraphites, who want to hang and gut her. However, there are alarm bells from the village, and the Seraphites take off to help their kin. Ellie gets back to the boat and makes her way to the aquarium.

As Ellie heads to the aquarium on the boat again, there are explosions on the Seraphite Island.

Vengeance driven:

Vengeance drives Ellie in this episode. She has tunnel vision because the WLFs forced her to watch Joel get beaten to death. After getting to the aquarium, she makes her way inside to find two of the people who were at the ski lodge. Owen and Mel were talking about Abby when Ellie came across them. Ellie tries to have them point out on a map where Abby is, but Owen grabs his gun, and Ellie shoots him.

However, the bullet goes through Owen and also slices into Mel’s throat. Mel is pregnant, and her dying wish is for to Ellie was to get the baby out. Ellie does not know how to perform a Cesarean section and does nothing. It is a truly emotional moment. Tommy and Jesse arrive shortly after and help Ellie out of the aquarium.

A finale for the ages:

After returning to the theater, Tommy and Jesse plan to leave the city with Dina and Ellie once the rain settles down. Ellie and Tommy briefly discuss Abby’s ability to live. Tommy asks if Ellie will be able to live with that, and Ellie says she will have to.

Tommy leaves the stage area to pack their duffle bags, and Jesse and Ellie have a decent conversation. Jesse says he knows Ellie would set the world on fire if he were ever in trouble. They hear a commotion and run up to the entrance area. After going through the doors, Jesse is shot and killed immediately by Abby. Abby thinks it was Tommy who killed her friends, but Ellie says it was her. She was looking for Abby, but did not want to kill anyone but Abby.

Abby says she let Ellie live, and Ellie wasted it. She aims her gun at Ellie, Ellie screams no multiple times, and the screen goes black as we hear a gunshot.

Setting the scene for The Last of Us season 3:

After the screen cuts to black, a ringing sound is heard. The next thing shown is a soldier waking Abby up. She makes her way to an opening, and the WLF operation is based inside the Seattle Seahawks stadium. The screen shows Seattle, Day One. The third season appears to start with Abby’s version of the three days.

Pete’s Take:

Pete had a great one-word to describe The Last of Us season 2 finale. That word was “heavy”. So many moments in this episode felt heavy, whether it was the conversations between characters or the moments that left us speechless.
