Episode 7:
200 years ago: Meet Yalena Yardeen (played by Karen Glave)
We finally get to meet Aneela’s mother. We learn that Yalena went to Arkyn to Aneela and found her dissecting a body. She tells Khylen that she’s going to wherever he is going and wants to help save Aneela.
Well..
The Truth
After they go through a pulsar and Yalena demands to know what happened to Khylen, she accidentally shoots him with a gun she pulled on him. It healed and she passed out.
When she wakes, Khylen tells her she had passed out and hit her head and being ever the Qreshi royal says “fainting is for the weak, I took a very sudden nap” making the very stoic Khylen laugh.
A softer side
He then asks how she knew he was different and she says “because you didn’t take my hand” referring to when she found Aneela and he didn’t comfort her. Looking saddened khylen took them into the heart of the temple they were at.
This softer side of Khylen is so wonderful to see and the fact she made him laugh is even better.
Ready to die for a greater good
Inside, he tells her about finding the parasite on Arkyn and it changed him and Aleena. He brings out a vile and takes it to the green pool inside, which we find out is The Lady’s main pool and says it will end everything.
Yalena stops him and says that she has known him since they were six years old and loved him since they were twelve and he never gave up. She asked him not to give up on them. She agreed that if he couldn’t find a way to save their daughter she would put it in the pool.
Modern day: Lucy
Dutch and Johnny follow the coordinates to the pulsar they heard in Dutch’s memory. When they get there the find no pulsar but are sucked into a black hole.
Faked out
They hit ground and realized that the pulsar was inside the black hole. Dutch heads out to figure out where they are and is taken prisoner by men with spears.
When asked who she was and she answers “I’m Yalena Yardeen, and I was sent here by Khylen Kin Rit, I’m his daughter”. Johnny mentions he has never heard her refer to herself as that and she says that was the first time she had said it.
They take Dutch to the temple and tell her she has to go on by herself. She enters and finds a cryo pod. It opens and Yalena comes out, who also happens to be the fake assassin in Dutch’s memory, good ole Khylen hiding secrets everywhere, and mistakes Dutch for her daughter.
When the dust settles, Dutch tells Yalena that Khylen is dead and to Yalena that says it’s all over and gets the vile.
She asks Dutch how she know Aneela and she says she is family and that she hopes that she will trust her with that as family.
Yalena hands it over with one request, if she can’t help Aneela, to end her. Deciding to wait for Khylen, whom she believes will always find her no matter what, Heads back into cryo sleep.
Yalena also gives Dutch some motherly advice and says “well, it’s a very hard life if you only have faith in yourself” when Dutch asks how she can have faith in a man who abandoned her.
Taking Dutch by the hand she asks if Aneela found happiness? Dutch tells her that in her way she found her perfect match. She then asks Dutch if she’s happy and Dutch gives her basic “I’m fine” and says there’s more important things during a war.
In what are the most heart touching words of the series Yalena says with her hand on Dutch’s face, “Angers good. Until it hurts you more than it heals you. And when your ready… I hope you choose to let yours go”.
In the end, Dutch and Johnny escape the fake pulsar and head to Telen when they find out that the black root ships were following Jaq and D’avin.
This is the best episode of the season in my opinion.
Episode 8:
A Jaqobi family reunion
Dutch and Johnny head to Telen to save D’avin and Jaq. They took a slingshot around Kupri and beat the Hullen heading after Jaq and D’avin.
Johnny gets ready to head down to Telen in the midst of a silica storm aka a very bad and dangerous sand storm that can tear a person apart. They set up and extraction point and he leaves.
Meanwhile…
Jaq is bored
While a very bored Jaq kept asking when they were going to have fun, Jaq and D’avin run into papa Jaqobi aka Marris (played by Ron Lea) and heads into their bunker.
Trying to connect with D’avin, Marris tells him that after his run in with D’avin in Khylen’s body and Fancy, that he had turned over a new leaf and no longer drinks.
D’avin, who isn’t ready to forgive his dad just yet, goes and tries to find the two thousand joy (the currency of the J) but finds out his father found it and used it for booze.
While D’avin does some work In the bunker, Marris sends Jaq to get one of his tools out of the tunnel in order to teach the boy not to be scared and along comes Uncle Johnny to help keep Jaq safe from the incoming Hullen.
Not so happy family reunion
Marris still can’t seem to find anything nice to say to Johnny. D’avin, who is still in over protective mode, tells Jaq to stay with Johnny and him and papa Jaqobi go after the invading Hullen.
Jaq tells Johnny that his dad didn’t leave on him but was sent into the army by their dad. More drama to come.
Enter an old flame: Charlie Volford
While watching Jaq, an old flames of Johnny’s whose taken his fathers place as sheriff arrives in the bunker and kisses Johnny.
Elsewhere…
Marris and D’avin are attacked by the Hullen and while D’avin is knocked out they kidnap their dad in exchange for Jaq.
D’avin wakes up and asks “do belly buttons ever get mad that mouths put them out of business”. Jaq asks if his dad is alright and Johnny lets him know he just needs to relax.
when D’avin gets his senses back, he questions the Hullen they captured earlier about where his dad was. All the Hullen would say is that the boy was the first and the lady wanted him before he was killed by something attached to his neck.
Jaq overheard the whole conversation but we will get to that later. Meanwhile, Johnny asks Charlie to take Jaq to the meeting location with Dutch and the two brothers head after their dad.
It’s a Trap!!
While heading to where their dad was, Johnny asks D’avin why he left. D’avin says because he was a rebel but Johnny makes him tell his story not his dads.
D’avin tells him that he told his dad off about hitting Johnny and hit him. His dad being sheriff gave him two choices, join the army or go to jail. Johnny thanks him for protecting him.
Well, they find their dad and even thought they know it’s a trap the go to him. There they get surrounded by Hullen guards and threatened by Charlie who sold them out for money.
Of course Johnny was pissed. After they break out of their holding cell and also find out that Jaq broke himself out, Johnny arrests his old flame after she says they should just take a ship and she would leave her kids. Not the greatest person in the world is she.
Meanwhile on Lucy:
Dutch had contacted Zeph, who comes up as a hologram, to figure out what was in the canister she found in the pulsar.
Thinking out loud, Zeph says she can figure it out if she had a giant centrifuge and to accomplish that Dutch decides to fly into the orbit of the sun.
Zeph and Lucy figure it out just in time before Lucy and Dutch both die. Zeph is now able to replicate the spore within.
Girl Talk
Zeph tells Dutch that she can be the badass she is and still let the light in. Dutch tells Zeph to keep doing what she does best and save Pip with her science.
The boys are back
Johnny takes Jaq to look at some stars from Lucy’s cockpit. Jaq asks Johnny what the Hullen want with him.
He also tells Johnny that Delle Seyah Gave him a way to go to her and that way he will be safe and D’avin can help them defeat the lady.
I am kind of hoping that he goes to Delle Seyah so we can see how she deals with being a mom but I’m also super interested where she went herself.
A Lovers reunion
Though I am team Johnny and Dutch it was nice to see the loving moment between Dutch and D’avin. We see Dutch take yalena’s words to heart from the last episode and let that anger go and trust in someone. It was even better to see Dutch admit that D’avin not trusting her really hurt.
But, in true killjoys fashion, just after a slight but loving kiss, Dutch falls on her knees in pain and when D’avin looks at her back he sees a marking. What the hell is that strange markings?
Where are we going in the last two episodes?
Why does Dutch now have a Marin burning itself on to her back?
Can Zeph save Pip?
What happened to Gared at the RAC?
Is Aneela alive and where did Delle Seyah go?
The final two episodes of the season are going to be heart wrenching and exciting all at the same time.
