Instinct Season 2 Episode 3

The previous two episodes have seen Doctor Reinhart and Detective Needham facing the tough challenges of getting Dylan back on the team, adoption woes, Julian working at the NYPD and Jasmine leaving her cheating fiancé.

But this week they faced their toughest challenge… a missing nine year old boy named Robby.

Robby Miller

Robby, our nine year old missing boy who was tossed into the middle of a heated custody battle between his dad and grandparents, disappears only leaving his stuft monkey, cheetah, behind.

His dad, Will Miller had left him home alone to run an errand.

When Will got home his late wives father was there and wanted to see Robby but they both got upstairs to find the boy missing.

Our suspects…

Will Miller

We learn that Will was arrested five years ago on murdering his wife but the trial ended in a hung jury.

During that time Robby stayed with his grandparents, the Alvaro’s, and his godparents, the Lockhart’s.

Will had broken the custody agreement and tried taking Robby out of state but was caught. He didn’t serve any time though.

He maintains his innocence about his wife’s death saying she was depressed and killed herself and that he was withdrawing money at the time of her death while Robby was with the babysitter.

His questioning

When questioned, he told them he left Robby home that night to go see a woman he sponsors through a drug program. When she didn’t show he stopped by the bodega to buy some bleach because he needed a clean shirt.

Now the minute he said bleach my mind started racing and the worst scenarios came to mind. But, we have more suspects, like

The Alfaro’s

Robby’s grandparents on his mothers side. They still believe Will killed their daughter Mimi five years ago even though he argues she killed herself.

One of Mr. Alfaro’s company construction trucks were found near by and had blood in the back. The blood tested positive for Robby’s.

Once again my heart went nuts.

A jump rope is the key

After finding a piece of jump rope in Robby’s room and Dylan explaining that he was caught up in the middle of his families fighting, they figured out he left on his own and he had help.

None other than

The Lockhart girls

Emma and Sutton Lockhart had become like his sisters. He didn’t want to be forced to choose at the custody hearing so they devised a plan.

Instead of going to a baseball game, they went and helped Robby break out of his room using the jump rope and they had broken the window trying to get cheetah and that’s when Robby got hurt, but was able to sneak to the construction van. Hence, the blood in the back of the van.

Finding Robby

Dylan and Lizzie find Robbie at the Lockhart’s beach house watching cartoons.

At a hearing with the judge, Dylan and Lizzie figures out that Will couldn’t have killed Mimi because he was withdrawing money from the bank for a drug buy but instead used it to pay the babysitter.

The grandparents looked shocked and almost apologetic towards Will. The judge placed Robby with the Lockhart’s until the custody arrangements were figured out.

Reuniting with Robby

At the end, thanks to Dylan’s pushing both Will and the grandparents embraced Robby together, showing the little boy they were and will be a united front from now on and that he is what is most important.

But the story doesn’t end there

Dylan and Andy

Dylan and Andy are still trying to adopt and are pursuing multiple options.

I love the fact the show is pushing adoption over surrogacy just because so many kids are in need of a loving home.

Things are looking up for the couple when an adoption agency calls from the west coast and asks about Sam, a waitress who just put in her letter of resignation, is pregnant and looking to place the baby up for adoption.

Fingers crossed we get to see these two as fathers by the end of the season.

Lizzie and Julian

Lizzie and Julian are meeting at a hotel while Jasmine stays with Lizzie. We hear Julian talking to someone in Russian but quickly hangs up when Lizzie comes out.

Julian is still trying to figure out who blew up his lab back in episode 1 of this season.

Lizzie also gains a respect for having Jules aka Julian at the precinct no matter what she says. He was really useful in this episode while looking for Robby.

Lizzie and Dylan

Lizzie lets Dylan take the lead on this case due to her being emotionally connected. She doesn’t like the CPS because of how terribly she handled her and her sisters case when they were young.

At the end, Dylan tells Lizzie that she had the right to be scared because she wasn’t taken care of as a child. She was supposed to feel safe in her home with her mom and she didn’t.

Lizzie lets Dylan know she noticed he was frightened as well, due to it being a missing child and him and Andy are trying to adopt. He asks how she knew and she tells him that she noticed a change in his normal behavior.

Finally, Lizzie tells Dylan she’s the boss again as he tells her to leave the behavioral analysis to him.

I love the dynamic between these two and I can’t wait to see what comes next.

Instinct can be seen on CBS Sundays at 9/8c.
