‘BOSCH’: Connelly calls season 7 renewal “bittersweet”

February 13, 2020 by Tracey Phillipps Leave a Comment

"Bosch: Season 4" - Titus Welliver in Season 4 of Bosch
Take a moment to share:

Fans are digesting news of Bosch renewal.

Bosch will be returning for a seventh season of the Amazon Prime original series as reported earlier today by Deadline. Season 7 is not yet in production as season 6 has not even been released. This means fans get two more full seasons of the popular detective series.

The other piece of the announcement is that season 7 will be the last season of Bosch. It is a tough pill to swallow for devoted fans of a beloved character brought to life on screen by Titus Welliver. Author Michael Connelly whose novels inspired the series weighed in on Twitter.  He referred to the news himself as “bittersweet”.

“I’m proud of what we have accomplished with Bosch and look forward to completing the story in season 7. It’s bittersweet but all good things come to an end and I am happy that we will be able to go out the way we want to. …

— Michael Connelly (@Connellybooks) February 13, 2020

Bosch has had an impressive run being the longest running original series from Amazon. Connelly also announced the source material for the final season. Season 7 will draw from his books The Burning Room and The Concrete Blonde.

Some food for thought:

  • Fans can look forward to a new novel from Michael Connelly in May 2020. The book titled Fair Warning will feature another popular character, reporter Jack McEvoy.
  • CBS is bringing Connelly’s character Mickey Haller aka “The Lincoln Lawyer” to the small screen. Recent reports suggest it could be as early as fall 2020. We recently learned of the first cast announcement for the series. Kiele Sanchez is taking on the role of Lorna who plays a vital role in Haller’s practice.
  • What if Amazon decides to produce a Bosch spin-off series? While in no way committing to the idea, Connelly did raise the thought at the annual SCAD aTVfest in Atlanta last year. You can read more about that Bosch panel here.

Bosch season 6 will arrive in 2020, hopefully in April like the last few seasons. Season 7 will film later this year with a 2021 release planned.
