More pieces fall into place with all the cases in Bosch: Legacy season 3 episode 7.
Bosch: Legacy Debrief for Season 3 Episode 7 “Welcome To The Other Side”
Written By: Emily Ragsdale
Directed By: Katrelle Kindred
Refresh your memory:
- Honey Chandler won the race for Los Angeles District Attorney.
- LAPD SWAT arrested Diego Perra for the murder of Jimmy Robertson.
- Nestor Gomez tried to pawn a watch at Mama Roux’s pawnshop. Vasquez sees her nephew Albert talking with Victoria (Fortune) in Lemon Grove Park.
- City Councilman Patrick Currey likes to inject his boyfriends with drugs.
- Jade Quinn/Janice Morrell faked a relationship with Mo to try to take down Bosch and Chandler. Mo confronts her during an UNO game at his place while the FBI is listening.
- While Bosch working the Robertson murder case sub-rosa, he concludes that someone assassinated Robertson.
The search for Finbar
Sealed Federal Documents:
Bosch suggests that since the federal documents about Finbar McShane are sealed and inside a box, it would be easier to wave a white flag. Mo still wants a chance to see what he can do to come up with them. Later in the episode, we see Jade Quinn walking to her car. Under a windshield wiper is an envelope containing an UNO card. “Lost Property 8 pm” is written on the card.
Mo sits down with Jade at Lost Property and asks her to help access the sealed file. He reminds her that she owes him for not outing her after she tried to take him down.
Jade comes through for Mo, and she brings the sealed documents to his apartment. The FBI sealed the file on Finbar McShane because Finbar’s accomplice was a former asset dismissed from the FBI. Jade asks why Mo he did not retaliate after she betrayed him. He suggests that “maybe [he] didn’t want to close that door.” Do we not love Mo’s demeanor? He tells Jade, “I would invite you to play a game of UNO, but I’m kind of a sore loser.” They agree to part ways “for now”.
Food For Thought: Should they give a relationship another try?

Robbery Crew and Vasquez
Will Vasquez try to cover up her nephew’s involvement?
While Hollywood Station is still partly dark, Vasquez sneaks into the offices and removes a couple of sheets from a call log binder on the robbery crew.
The plan for the day:
Maddie shows up at Hollywood Station and sees Sergeant Julius Edgewood. She asks him if he has seen Vasquez, to which he responds that Reina called in sick. The plan for the day is to follow Nestor Gomez to see where he goes and who he meets.
Vasquez confronts Albert:
Vasquez waits by Albert’s house, and as he backs out of the driveway, she pulls up right behind him. She tells Albert they need to talk and to follow her. At the park, Vasquez puts all her cards on the table and tells him she knows everything about Albert’s involvement in the follow-home robberies. Albert denies any involvement in the robberies, and Vasquez walks off, issuing a warning to him.
Potential hiding spot:
Vasquez talks with her sister, Mari Torres, to get information on Albert. In the conversation, Mari says that Albert has been visiting their grandfather regularly, which is unusual. Vasquez visits her grandfather, brings him groceries, and looks into what Albert might have been hiding. After a Green Grove employee takes her grandfather to lunch, Vasquez looks around his room and finds a stash of stolen merchandise inside a hat box.
Tailing Nestor:
Edgewood and Maddie follow Nestor to a dollar store. Maddie enters the store and is able to snap a photo of Albert as he meets with Nestor. When searching Nestor’s Instagram, Maddie finds Albert’s name with a picture of Albert and Nestor. Maddie spots that two pages from the call sheet binder are missing. Edgewood suggests that she run Albert Torres’s name through LexisNexis to see what comes up. She does so and finds the connection to Reina Vasquez.
Slippery Sam:
Albert meets with a man he calls Slippery Sam. Albert is trying to unload some stolen merchandise to get money immediately.
Maddie asks for Bosch’s advice:
Maddie drops by unannounced, and Bosch is just unpacking his dinner from Tere’s. She wonders if the chicken burritos pair well with bourbon, and Bosch pours them each a glass. Out on the deck after dinner, Maddie asks her father for advice. Maddie states that she feels another officer might be “crossing a line” by protecting someone they should not be protecting. I love Bosch’s response, “Well, you have to decide how much of the gray you’re willing to live in.” When asked if this person has already crossed the line would she have to rat them out, Bosch says, “Depends. You can wait and see. And just because someone hasn’t done the right thing yet, doesn’t mean they won’t do the right thing when the time comes.” I loved this moment between Maddie and Bosch.
Victoria spots a familiar face:
After spending some time with Albert at his mom’s house, Victoria enters the kitchen to get a drink and discovers a photo of Albert with his mom and his aunt, Reina Vasquez, the cop who has been on her case.
Maddie confronts Vasquez:
Maddie brings Reina some soup, but it is just a way to get into her house to let her know she knows about Albert. She puts her cards on the table, saying they must talk about Vasquez’s nephew.

Chandler and Bosch’s busy schedule
Commotion in the courtroom:
Honey Chandler and her team arrive in the courtroom for Diego Perra’s arraignment. The courtroom gallery is full of police officers and detectives. Perry Lopez, partner of the late Jimmy Robertson, sits a few rows back from the prosecution table. L. Roman Stallworth is at the defense table. The courtroom goes into a frenzy when Honey Chandler only charges Diego Perra with six counts of armed robbery. Honey adds that her office may amend the charges at a future date. The entire gallery of observers wants Diego Perra charged with murder. It becomes so loud in the courtroom that Judge Simon Newland threatens to clear the courtroom. On the way out of the courthouse, reporters bombard Chandler with questions, but she walks past without answering.
Chief Hughes:
Honey takes a call from Chief Hughes, and she is less than pleased that Honey did not inform her about Chandler’s plan to charge Perra with only the robberies. Chandler is adamant that the case needs to be solid and not rushed to make sure the right person gets punished for Robertson’s murder.
Bosch discovers a clue:
Harry visits Shaz at her house. They discuss Jimmy’s final day and night, and at the end of the conversation, she says she cannot get rid of Jimmy’s clothes in her closet, but she also cannot stand to look at them. Bosch helps her by taking the clothes out of the closet, folding them, and putting them in a box. As he empties the pockets of one of Jimmy’s sports coats, he comes across a parking garage ticket with “Las Palmas 11 pm 11/14” written on it.
Patrick Currey:
City Councilman Patrick Currey receives a call from a club owner or worker named Mr. Josh. Josh informs Patrick that someone has just been inside the club asking about Patrick. Josh warns Currey that the man inquiring about him appears to be visiting clubs one after another. The man asking about him has a “chill vibe” with a beard and ponytail. Who do we know that matches that description?
DEA Agent Charlie Hovan:
Bosch meets up with Charlie Hovan outside the DEA office inside the parking garage listed on Jimmy’s ticket. You may recall that Hovan helped Edgar and Bosch in season 5 of the original series with the pill shills. Harry shows Hovan the parking garage ticket with the time and place written on it that matches the time and place where someone had murdered Jimmy Robertson. Bosch wants to know who Jimmy was meeting with at the DEA since he had parked there. Hovan says he will look into it and let Bosch know.
Bosch loops in Lopez:
Harry calls Perry Lopez to ask if Lopez can provide him with information on what Jimmy Robertson was investigating, especially anything related to narcotics or the DEA. Lopez attempts to shake off Bosch knowing that involvement with him would not sit well with the LAPD. Bosch makes a final plea reminding Lopez not to give up on a partner. Lopez agrees to five minutes.
Interviewing Diego’s Girlfriend:
Corvus Pike and Raquel Bowers talk with Sofia Velasco in her apartment and find out that the police found the gun that killed Robertson in the broiler drawer of the oven. During their conversation, Sofia mentions that someone had messed with the sliding glass window and was sure someone had entered her apartment the night Robertson was killed. It couldn’t have been Diego Perra. He has a key to her place.
Lopez helps Bosch:
Perry Lopez brings Bosch a summary of Jimmy’s cases, one of which involving narcotics, which was a Juan Doe body dump case from South LA. Harry asks Lopez to retrieve the murder book.
Bosch and Lopez go to the coroner’s office to get the autopsy report from Ernie Munger. He was the one who allowed Bosch to view the Jane Doe who matched Maddie’s description last season of Bosch: Legacy. Munger shares that a chalk-like substance was found under Juan Doe’s fingernails along with a key card in his sock. Lopez tells Bosch he will see if he can get his hands on the key card.
Lopez gets a hold of the key card, and hands it over to Bosch and Mo. Mo tracks the information off the key card and finds that it was for the Desert Dream Inn in Lancaster. Juan Doe checked into the hotel in October, just a couple of months ago, but never checked out.
Currey has a meeting with Chandler:
Amanda Scones worked Patrick Currey into Chandler’s schedule so that he could meet with her. During the meeting, Patrick states that Archer became “closed off and paranoid”. Currey adds that Archer didn’t maintain good relationships with his colleagues and constituents. Patrick offers his friendship to help tackle all the problems that arise.
Food for thought: What was this visit supposed to accomplish for Currey? Was it a veiled threat to let her know he knows Honey is looking into him?
DNA:
The DNA found on the bullets in the gun did not match Diego Perra’s, but forensics discovered an unknown male’s DNA on the bullets. The DNA is being run through CODIS to determine if it is in the system. Honey was unhappy with the news, and Bowers says, “Welcome to the other side,” which is the title of this episode.
Hovan comes through:
Hovan meets Bosch to let him know the information he dug up on Jimmy’s contact at the DEA. Robertson was in contact with an agent named Nemeth, and Jimmy asked Nemeth about black ice and fentanyl. Jimmy was looking for any wire chatter about the Juan Doe case, but there was no information to share. Bosch meets with Honey to let her know Jimmy was supposed to meet someone at the taco truck the night somebody killed him. Harry updates Chandler on all the pieces to the puzzle he knows now.
Chandler gets a call from Corvus Pike, and he informs her that the DNA on the bullets came back connected to an entirely different homicide. It’s connected to Jimmy’s Juan Doe case. Bosch is now convinced that someone targeted Jimmy and mentions sicarios.
