Refresh your memory:
- Fortune’s paranoia was at a maximum level, so she smoked out the CRU surveillance on Find Your Grind Studio.
- Honey stumbled onto a potential case involving a City Councilman named Patrick Currey and the murder of Shawn Williams.
- Bosch and Mo found the site where Finbar buried the Gallagher family. Finbar McShane is in the wind.
- We learned that Reina Vasquez’s nephew, Albert, is among the three people responsible for the follow-home robberies.
- Honey Chandler beat Emmett Archer for the Los Angeles DA race.
- After having drinks with Bosch and burying the hatchet, Robertson was shot and killed next to a taco truck during an armed robbery.

The search for Finbar
Bosch’s pain:
Bosch is sitting alone on his office couch as the turntable needle is just scratching the end of a record. Harry has been drinking, which appears to be most of the night, if not an early start. Mo comes in, takes the needle off the record, and asks if they should discuss Finbar. There has been no activity on anything connected to Finbar McShane. No bank accounts, credit cards, phone, or social media have been active since Finbar disappeared.
After answering a question, Bosch snaps at Mo about how long it would take to look into the money Finbar used to buy the stake in Gallagher’s business. Mo states he will look into it and leaves. Bosch is taking everything to heart between Diego, allegedly, killing Jimmy and finding the Gallagher family.
Emotional moment:
Bosch meets with Siobhan to offer her any of his help she needs. Siobhan has a cousin from Boston come to help her sort and pack up the Gallagher house. She says there is nothing to keep her there, so she will return to Dublin. There is a somber moment when Siobhan mentions the funeral for the Gallagher family. Bosch feels like he failed her but says that he will reach out to her if anything breaks in the case.
Finbar’s funds:
Mo tracks how Finbar got the money to invest in the Gallaghers’ business. McShane owned a truck stop before connecting with Stephen Gallagher. The truck stop burned down, and McShane collected the insurance money. The insurance money is how he had the funds to invest in Gallagher’s business, but it also initiated a federal investigation. The feds did not file charges against Finbar, but Mo got a sneak peek at the case file and noticed there were sealed documents associated with it. Bosch mentions that sealed federal files are secured in a box, so there is no way they will be able to get a look at them. Mo says he wants to give it a try.
Follow-home crew
A short hiatus:
After being sidelined for a month, the robbery crew starts getting antsy. Nestor Gomez wants to return to their criminal activities more than the other two. Fortune tells Albert and Nestor to be careful about to whom they sell the stolen merchandise. Of course, Nestor does a careless thing. Nestor Gomez tries to sell a watch to the pawn shop run by Mama Roux. We haven’t seen Mama Roux since season 7 of the original Bosch series. Mama Roux asks for his ID, but Gomez says he left it at home. Nestor leaves, saying he will come back with it, and Mama calls in a tip to the police based on a community alert flyer with a picture of the watch Nestor was trying to sell her.
Photo evidence:
Vasquez and Maddie ask Mama Roux to provide a description and the behavior of Nestor when trying to sell the watch at the pawn shop. Mama gives them something better than a description. She prints off a picture of him from the camera’s footage. Maddie and Vasquez know who he is because his name has appeared in the case. While updating Detective Morrison on the new information, we finally got the crew leader’s name, Victoria Hernandez. Detective Morrison asks why they should not just bring in Nestor, but Victoria and other triggermen could go underground if they were to do that. Maddie states that Nestor is not the brains of the operation but rather Victoria. The plan is to tap into Victoria’s phone, “rattle her cage”, and see who she reaches out to.
Rattling the cage:
Vasquez and Maddie visit Victoria, who is working at her parents’ restaurant. They show her the picture of Nestor trying to pawn the watch and tell her they are onto her. Victoria plays it cool, but we can tell she gets rattled by the visit. Maddie calls Morrison to let them know they were leaving the restaurant. Morrison tells her they are monitoring her phone and will let them know if and when she calls someone. After Maddie and Vasquez leave the restaurant, Victoria sends a text, “LG @ 8”, which means Lemon Grove Park.
A shocking reveal for Vasquez:
With Lemon Grove Park not a big area, Morrison sends only Vasquez and Maddie to blend into the background to see who Victoria meets. To Vasquez’s surprise, she spots her nephew Albert meeting with Victoria. As Reina leaves the park, I spot her clenching and unclenching her hands. She is angry that her nephew is involved, but Maddie does not pick up on her frustration. Vasquez says that she would handle the operation paperwork.
Food for thought: Will Vasquez torpedo the case to help her nephew?

Honey Chandler, new District Attorney of Los Angeles
Robertson’s suspected killer arrested:
At the start of the episode, we see HOPE outreach volunteers passing out food and water and offering medical assistance to unhoused people in an abandoned building. After giving two sandwiches to an unhoused person, a volunteer named Veronica texts the location and description of the man to a SWAT leader outside. SWAT moves in and arrests Diego Perra, who is played by Esteban Carmona, for the murder of Jimmy Robertson.
Chief Hughes and Honey Chandler hold a press conference to announce the arrest. At Boardner’s Bar, Bosch, Maddie, and Shaz are watching the press conference and raise a glass and drink in honor of Jimmy Robertson.
Meet the CAPOS:
Emmett Archer stops by Honey Chandler’s office to discuss the case against Diego Perra. She thanks him for a smooth transition process. During their conversation, Archer asks Honey if she has met the CAPOS working the case. Our great friend Tracey Phillipps looked into what CAPOS stands for and found this out. The Crimes Against Peace Officers Section of the District Attorney’s office is a specialized trial unit that is exclusively devoted to the prosecution of violent criminals charged with the murder or attempted murder of police officers. Archer says the two CAPOs assigned to the case are Corvus Pike and Raquel Bowers. He notes they are excellent prosecutors.
Corvus Pike (Tim Dekay) and Raquel Bowers (Victoria Gabrielle Platt) step Honey through the investigation into Diego Perra. Witnesses saw Perra drinking at the Maven Bar hours before the murder of Robertson. Perra also matches a description of a man who has robbed multiple food trucks over the past few months. None of those robberies have had a person shot or killed, which breaks the pattern. The police found the murder weapon in a backpack located at Diego’s girlfriend’s house.
Run a Perkins:
Honey says they should run a Perkins to swiftly and stiffly file the charges on Diego Perra. We saw this play during season 7 of the original series. Perra gets put into a cell with a heavily tattooed gang-looking inmate, and the inmate, who is an undercover cop, tries to get a murder confession out of Perra. However, it does not work. Diego yells that he wants his lawyer, which ends their conversation.
Perra’s lawyer:
Amanda Scones informs Honey that Diego Perra’s lawyer is L. Roman Stallworth, whose nickname is “The Stalwart,” who Honey says is a formidable opponent. He wants to meet Honey at the Musso and Frank Grill in Hollywood, which they do that evening. Stallworth claims his client, Diego, is innocent, and shows Honey footage from a neighbor of Perra’s camera of Diego returning home the evening Robertson was killed. We see Perra, inebriated, stumbling into his home, and twelve minutes later, a man walks soberly out of the house.
Food for thought: Is that Perra in the video both times or two different men?
Writer’s note: If you are a fan of both Bosch Legacy and The Lincoln Lawyer, we have seen the actor playing L. Roman Stallworth [previously. Phillip Anthony-Rodriguez played Adam Suarez in four episodes of season 3 of The Lincoln Lawyer.
Enter Bosch:
Chandler shows the video to Harry Bosch. She also gives him a copy of the murder book on Jimmy Robertson. Honey tells him his investigation has to be sub-rosa, a phrase we haven’t heard in a while. Harry assures Chandler that everyone, including the media, people, and cops agree with her on Perra. He asks her if she wants him to investigate Perra. Chandler expresses her concern about being wrong about who killed Jimmy.
Patrick Currey:
Mo shows Chandler pictures of Patrick Currey with some men he meets at clubs. In the photographs, Patrick is consuming pills and drinking while partying with his dates. Honey makes a funny quip, saying that she wishes Patrick worked this hard as a councilman.
Shots across each bow:
Honey receives a call from Chief Hughes. Hughes wants Perra to be charged quickly reminding Chandler of Jimmy’s status among the LAPD. Chandler stands her ground ensuring that they will charge accordingly when the case is solid.
Bosch apologizes to Mo:
While showing Mo the copy of Jimmy Robertson’s murder book, Bosch apologizes to Mo for how he snapped at him earlier. There is a quick scene where we see Bosch looking away from a crime scene photo of Robertson lying dead on the ground. Usually, Bosch studies every murder scene picture like it is a puzzle. For him to turn away like he did, we can see how close this one hits home for Harry Bosch.
“Get off our asses, knock on doors”:
To verify the witness statements of Jimmy Robertson’s murder, Mo and Bosch take to the streets to talk with the people who gave witness statements. As Bosch stated in his office, “Get off our asses, knock on doors.” Both Mo and Bosch interview a handful of witnesses each, but one person’s statement was missing from the stack. There was no statement from a man named Jason Swift, because no one talked with him. Bosch goes to ask him what he saw. When speaking with Jason Swift, Bosch determines that Jimmy was reaching for his wallet to comply with the gunman who shot and killed him.
Broken order:
Mo shows Harry the crime scene photos and Bosch asks a good question, “Why does a guy who’s never shot anyone in any of his previous robberies gun down a cop on this one?” While looking at the aerial photo, Mo asks what the initials BO stand for. Bosch says it is short for “broken order” (also the title of this episode), which means the camera was not working.
Missing information:
Chandler, Pike, and Bowers discuss the information they need “to support or negate” the video of Perra stumbling into his house. Pike and Bowers need to track down information on Perra’s whereabouts between the locations and the volume of alcohol he consumed at The Maven. Bowers says they already investigated these areas, but Honey says to rework it. Chandler asks what they need to accomplish the task. Bowers requests an extra paralegal, and Pike holds up two fingers, saying they need double. Honey offers them four extra paralegals to help them out.
A tense stare down:
Pike and Bowers did their due diligence and obtained video and witness statements from people who had seen Diego Perra at the bar. The new evidence is intriguing because Perra did not have much to drink while at the bar for just a few hours. Pike, Bowers, and Chandler have a heart-to-heart conversation about the case. Pike does not care for how Honey is handling the case. They need more resources for it to be bulletproof to prosecute Diego Perra. Honey authorizes all the resources Pike and Bowers request, but there was a moment when I thought Pike’s head would explode.
Peace offering:
Pike and Chandler have drinks in her office, which may be Pike’s way of saying sorry or thank you. With the additional resources, an investigator found a new witness. A neighbor of Diego’s girlfriend’s states she saw Perra’s car leaving the girlfriend’s house an hour after Perra allegedly murdered Robertson.
Disabled camera:
Mo and Bosch talk with a building owner about the broken camera across the street from where Diego Perra, allegedly, killed Robertson. Someone or something disabled the camera around 3 am the night before the murder. Did the killer impair it, or was it just a coincidence? Mo states that with the camera being accessible, if someone were to rub the right magnet over the camera, it would distort and blur the image. The cameras would have seen everything, which means the murder does not appear to be random.
Bosch meets with Chandler and tells her all the information he has been able to track down in Robertson’s murder. Harry feels that someone assassinated Robertson because he was a cop.
