Blood and Treasure Episode 10
In last week’s episode, Danny and Lexi continued to follow Cleopatra’s trail through Canada, we learned that Lexi’s mother was part of the Brotherhood and we had to say goodbye to Fabi. Will Lexi get answers about her mother’s involvement in the Brotherhood this week?
Getting Answers
In Paris, Danny and Lexi break into the Brotherhood’s headquarters. Lexi goes in alone and Danny agrees to meet her at a cafe later.
In Rome, Gwen has a warrant to search Father Chuck’s place since Danny was staying there. She also arrests him for his involvement in Fabi’s murder, but Father Chuck doesn’t even know who Fabi is. As he is being escorted out, Father Chuck asks for his comfy shoes and surprisingly the carabinieri oblidge. (But he did pull the “I’m a priest” card.)
Lexi goes down to the room with the medallions and returns Fabi’s to Alessandro and Alina. She wants to learn more about her mother, but Alessandro says now is not the time. As she sees Fabi’s coffin, she asks if her mother is buried here. Alina takes her to her mother’s resting place. Alina tells her that the Brotherhood took in many recruits from all over to protect relics and objects of antiquity. Since the Brotherhood was nearly destroyed after the war, they couldn’t protect Cleopatra when the Nazi’s took her. Their numbers have dwindled, but their mission remains the same.
Lexi takes Alina to the cafe to meet with Danny. Alina informs Danny that Chuck has been taken in for questioning, and as Danny wants to leave to help Chuck, Lexi tells him about an agent in the CIA. The CIA trained local contractors, gathering intellegence, but an airstike mistook a shelter for a bunker and one of the contractors escaped, but his family was killed. Karim Farouk, or his real name of Rasheed Hegazi. Danny contacts one of his friends about the bombing and he sends them information revealing another survivor, Nadia Bishara. They feel that if they can find Nadia, they can draw Farouk out on their terms.
Back at the carabinieri headquearters, Gwen is interrogating Father Chuck, but that quickly turns around, when he starts to ask her questions about why the carabinieri has given up chasing after Fabi’s killer and Interpol are the ones doing it. I’m surprised by how quickly Gwen reveals that Fabi was a double agent. Father Chuck is making this feel like a confessional and it is very entertaining. Gwen tells him that the carabinieri are shutting her out of the investigation and she can’t even access Fabi’s apartment. Father Chuck’s advice: “There are the laws of God which are about what is just, and there are the laws of man, which are about what is legal. The first you don’t break, the second…” And he shrugs. I love this character. We need to see more of Father Chuck in season two.
The Hunt
Alina has found Nadia Bishara in Moldova. She is in a hospital getting treatment for the uranium posioning. Nadia’s doctor said that Farouk has visited and has always been so kind. Danny and Lexi tell her that he is a terrorist and they are asking Nadia’s doctor to bring him there. She makes a call and Farouk is on his way.
When Farouk meets with Nadia, he spots Danny and Lexi and runs. Danny and Lexi chase after him, but he escapes when Taj drives up with a car to get away. He did leave his bag behind. The bag was carrying a gift for Nadia from a store in Cyprus. Now Danny and Lexi know where his base is located. They enlist the help of shady antiquities dealer, Simon Hardwick. He knows people that would be helping Farouk with smuggling, if his base is there. Danny doesn’t trust Simon and decides to call Gwen.
Gwen is breaking into Fabi’s apartment, but still takes Danny’s call. She tells him that Father Chuck has been released and she can’t talk. He tells her about a lead to Cyprus and will text her the info. She finds a violin case full of documents. As she hears footsteps on the stairs, she takes the files and hides out on the ledge when the carabinieri enter the apartment.
One Down, One To Go
Danny, Lexi and Simon are at the port and Danny tries to call Gwen again when he sees the armed guards, but she is not answering. Lexi suggests that the Brotherhood might be able to help, but Simon says not to trust them. He has heard their chatter, since he put a bug in their crypt. Both Danny and Lexi are surprised by this, but Lexi says that they are there because of the Brotherhood. Danny reminds her that Alina broke rank to give them intel. Simon says the Brotherhood know alot more, and will let them in on what he knows, if he gets the chance.
Simon distracts the armed guards, and Danny and Lexi take them out. They see a crate that would hold Antony. Danny reminds them to take Farourk alive because it will be the only way to make sure the attack doesn’t happen. They notice Farouk, but Simon makes a noise. Farouk hears it and he orders his men to kill them. Firefight ensuses and Farouk begins to operate the forklift carrying crates for the ship. He orders his men to get to the ship. Then Lexi traps Farouk once again. She missed her chance earlier, because she didn’t want Nadia to she her uncle killed in front of her. Lexi still hesitates to kill him, but Simon does not.
Police arrive and Simon wants to run, but Lexi says not to. The police open the crate to find Antony’s sarcopagus. Gwen arrives and she tries to find out where Farouk’s men ended up going. She tells Danny that she broke into Fabi’s apartment, that she is getting shut out of the investigation and that she thinks Fabi might have been investigating another angle on Farouk. She wants to share the information with Danny and asks that he help her try to figure out if Farouk’s plan will still take place. Danny agrees.
Discovering Truths
Lexi goes back to the Brotherhood and asks Alessandro about her father’s death. Fabi had been looking into the file that Lexi stole from Ghazal’s office. Danny notices writing on Lexi’s mother’s grave. He says that the symbol on her mother’s grave means that she is royality, a descendant of Cleopatra. Alessandro says that her father forbade them to attempt to bring her into the Brotherhood, but he was hoping she would come here on her own. Lexi refuses and leaves the crypt. She doesn’t want to be part of what kept her mother away from her and drove a wedge between her and her father.
Gwen tracked down Farouk’s men to Russia and the lab that they were testing the toxins in. Danny notices a powder and orders everyone to leave. Farouk’s men are carrying out his plan and now they have a biological weapon.
Thoughts
This was a big episode, and I’m surprised that Farouk was taken out so early. I imagined a big shootout over Cleopatra’s tomb. I can’t wait to see what the last three episodes will reveal, since one of the main storylines has now ended.
All the episodes have such great lines in them, and Father Chuck always makes me laugh. I couldn’t help but notice how quickly he turned Gwen’s interrogation around. This was very well written and well played by Mark Gagliardi. We need more of Father Chuck in season two. The added comedy in the mix of all the chase scenes, shootouts, and history lessons is very welcomed.
Lexi being a direct descendant of Cleopatra, was an interesting twist. I wasn’t expecting that at all. Now I wonder if the Brotherhood keeps tabs on the rest of Cleopatra’s descendants as well and if we will get to meet more of them….
Simon returns and he was teaming up with Danny and Lexi! That was an interesting mix. I’m surprised that it was Simon that ended up taking out Farouk. Lexi had the shot, but hesitated again. That’s interesting character growth. Maybe she thinks that Danny is right about taking him in alive.
Gwen sharing information with Danny and Lexi…finally she sees that working with them and not arresting them, might help achieve their goal. These scenes should be amusing!
