Voting was open for 10 days – We asked “What are the broadcast network TV shows that are on the bubble – that you want to see renewed?” You came in droves – thousands of you voting for your favorite shows! We’ve compiled the data, verified the votes, and we have your top 5 TV shows. So, let’s get to it…
# 5 Criminal Minds
CBS has had a hit with Criminal Minds for quite some time now. Even after the loss of a few key players (Shemar Moore, Thomas Gibson) within the show, they’re still going fairly strong in their 13th season. The premiere of S13 brought in just over 7 million viewers – on par with the average from the previous season, but they’ve had a few other ups and downs in the ratings. They are holding pretty steady at an average of 5.7 million viewers each week.
Will it be enough to earn a coveted 14th season? It’s a tough call because 13 seasons is one heck of a run, but it’s still pretty popular with fans… It has a decent chance for renewal.
# 4 The Exorcist
The horror drama from FOX stars Alfonso Herrara and Ben Daniels. Season one of The Exorcist averaged just under 2 million viewers, with the second season averaging just over 1.3 million per episode. Ratings are certainly a key metric when it comes to renewal decisions, but even with the drop in viewership – the writing isn’t necessarily on the wall. The show has a pretty solid fan base on social media and we’ve seen a few different efforts created by fans to show the network a third season is wanted.
Will it get a third season? We’re not very optimistic – but landing in the top five against a crowded field of pretty good shows – adds a little promise. It is a unique show with quality writing so there’s at least a chance.
# 3 The Blacklist
Raymond Reddington (James Spader) probably wouldn’t be thrilled being in 3rd place, but again – it’s a crowded field so we’re hoping he’ll still see it as a win. With a pretty strong fan base, The Blacklist is actually up a bit in ratings for it’s fifth season. Season 4’s average of 5.2 million was enough to earn a renewal, so the current 5.8M average should add fuel to the sixth season fire.
There’s still plenty of story to be told in this thriller from NBC – and we’re fairly confident we’ll continue seeing Reddington play his games in another season. Stay strong, Agent Keen (Megan Boone).
# 2 SEAL Team
The military drama from CBS is in it’s inaugural season and it hit the gates running with almost 10 million viewers for the premiere episode. SEAL Team has since seen a fairly significant drop in viewership – averaging just under 7 million viewers each week. While that’s not great news – the numbers, ultimately, aren’t bad. This seemed to be the season for military-inspired shows, and based on what we’ve seen on social media – fans do like and appreciate the show.
While the ratings do seem to bounce up and down a bit each week – The show has a good premise, strong actors, and enough viewers that we wouldn’t be surprised to see it get a renewal.
