Place those bets!

Have you ever placed a bet on an entertainment event? If not, you’d be surprised by the kind of betting markets that are available in this segment! There are a good number of bookmaking portals that offer bets on award shows, movies, reality shows, TV series and other types of entertainment events. Let’s acquaint you with some specific betting markets you can avail in this segment.

Betting on TV series

An excellent example of betting on TV series were the bets offered on ‘Game of Thrones’ some time ago. A great multitude of online bookies offered the following bets for the final season:

Who in the final season of Game of Thrones will sit on the Iron Throne?

  • Jon Snow at +800
  • Bran Stark at -500
  • Sansa Stark at +400

Some of the other popular TV series that can be bet on at both old and new bookmakers include Stranger Things, Doctor Who and Better Call Saul.

Betting on Reality Shows

There are several TV shows that fall into this category, including talent shows, contests, competition shows and reality TV. An excellent example of a show that a great multitude of people bet on actively is The Voice. As you must be aware, it’s singing-themed talent competition wherein unsigned artists are judged on their performances every week, by a panel of celebrity judges. The winner of the show takes home $ 100,000 as well as a record deal with the Universal Music.

How this show is unique is that the viewers can vote for their favourite contestants via text, Internet, iTunes Store purchases and/or phone. There are all kinds of bets available for The Voice, for instance, who’ll emerge winner in the weekly head-to-head contest, which coach will win etc. There are outright bets available on the season winner too. Following is an example of the season winner odds offered (at a certain point) by bookmakers during season 16 of the show:

  • Dexter Roberts at +950
  • Maelyn Jarmon at -185
  • Andrew Sevener at +1200
  • Gyth Rigdon at +225

Some of the other reality shows that you can bet on include Dancing with the Stars, X factor, America’s Got Talent, The Bachelor and Survivor.

Betting on Awards

There are plenty of award shows that you can place bets on, including music awards, TV awards, sports awards, movie awards and more. An excellent example is The Oscars where artists are recognised for their work in cinema, under different categories. Below is an example of how bookmakers offered odds for different artists/movies under different categories for the recently concluded Academy Awards.

  • Best Cinematography: 1917 at odds of -1000
  • Outright winner for Best movie: Joker at odds of +1400
  • Outright winner for Best Movie: The Irishman at odds of +5000
  • Best original Song: Rocketman / Love Me Again at odds of -1000
  • Best Actress: Charlize Theron / Bombshell at odds of +2500

You can even back winners in other well-known categories such as Best Make-up and Hair Styling, Best Animated Film, Best Costume Design and more. Some of the other popular award shows that can be bet on include BAFTA, Emmys, MTV VMAs and more.
