The Unicorn Episode 3

The episode starts off at a restaurant where Wade and his friends are seated at a table of six. The waitress comes over and asks if they’re waiting for someone. A moment of awkward silence falls over the group before they stumble upon words to say that it would just be the five of them.  This upsets Wade. We need steps away from the table to take a call from his girls. They aren’t getting along at home. Siblings!

Delia meets an old friend who also happens to be widowed. Her friend talks about a support group that has helped her. Delia thinks that might be a good suggestion for Wade.

He’ll do it…

At first Wade is reluctant to go to the group, but since his friends keep pestering him about anger issues, he goes just so they’ll keep quiet.

While at the group Wade completely feels out of place. All the widows there or female and all they talk about is sex. He decides this group is not for him. When Wade reports back to his friends about how the meeting went, they ask if he talked at all.  He couldn’t get a word in the conversation, so he agreed to go back one more time and talk.

It’s okay…

The next meeting, Wade tells the ladies that his friends thought this group would be a good idea to help with his anger. The ladies there tell him it’s okay to be angry. Others can’t comprehend how he’s feeling because they’ve never been through this, even if they say the words ‘I understand.’  Wade now has a group of people that get what he’s going through.

His girls are continuing to argue with each other, and even though he still lacks discipline skills, he still talks to them. Natalie is upset that she used to do everything with her mom and sister and feels that with Grace getting older, she won’t have time for her little sister. Grace assures her that she will always have time for her and Wade will be there too. On the next group outing to the restaurant, Wade brings Natalie as his date and the table that seats six, now has the sixth member.

Thoughts

One of the best parts of this show is that it is relatable. Maybe we have been in a situation where we have friends that mean well and want to help, but sometimes don’t understand what we are going through. Maybe we are a widow and find it tough to talk to our friends or to find the courage to go to a group. Maybe we have teenagers that we are finding difficult to raise.

What makes this show stand out is that they handle these heavy topics, not with overly dramatic scenes, but rather a bit of humor. It’s done very tastefully without disrespecting situations that anyone is going through. I hope this show continues on through the rest of the season and into another season.

I am on board with watching Wade and his family on their journey.
