Pete and Mike’s thoughts on The Last of Us season 2 episodes 3 and 4?
The Last of Us season 2:
Episode 3: ‘The Path’
In The Last of Us season 2 episode 3, we jump forward three months after the events of the second episode. Ellie is about to be discharged from the clinic, where she has spent the last three months recovering from injuries sustained when trying to help Joel. She can leave after meeting with the town’s psychiatrist, Gail Lyndon. However, Ellie lies about her true feelings.
What caught my eye was how Ellie’s expression changed from smiling and fun to focused and serious when walking through the clinic’s hallway towards the exit. At Joel’s house, Dina shares crucial intel with Ellie. She tells Ellie that Abby and the team at the ski lodge headed back to Seattle after killing Joel.
Ellie prepares to petition the town council for a group of townspeople to accompany her. The vote does not go her way, but she is determined to go alone. However, Dina shows up at the house and offers her help, which is good because Ellie did not have a good plan. With some help, Ellie and Dina get a horse to ride, and someone to lock up after they leave.
Journey To Seattle:
Before heading away from Jackson, Ellie visits Joel’s grave and lays coffee beans on the ground. Joel loved his coffee. Ellie and Dina have to camp out overnight because of a fast-approaching storm, where they discuss their kiss.
In this episode, we meet a new group called the Seraphites, who also seem to be heading towards Seattle. Ellie and Dina come across the aftermath of unknown people killing off the entire group of Seraphites.
The third episode ends with Dina and Ellie arriving in Seattle.
Episode 4: “Day One”
Isaac:
At the start of the episode, we meet a new bad guy in a flashback. Isaac Dixon wipes out his entire Wolves team to join a militia group. In the current timeline, he is one of the prominent leaders of the ruthless militia group fighting against the Wolves and Seraphites.
Seattle:
Dina and Ellie encounter a group of dead wolves near a tank. They decide not to approach a building they spotted marked as the Wolves’ headquarters because it is still light out, and someone would be able to spot them. Instead, Ellie and Dina set up inside a music store, where Ellie comes across an acoustic guitar still in good order. Ellie tunes the guitar and plays a beautiful rendition of ‘Take on Me’, a 1985 song by the group A-ha.
After dark, they make their way to the building. However, when they get there, all they find is death. Half a dozen Wolves have been hung and gutted. More Wolves show up, and Ellie and Dina have to hide and make a run for it. Ellie and Dina enter an abandoned subway, where the Wolves track them down. Wolves use flares to light up the subway area, and it causes a bunch of infected to locate them. A whole bunch of infected show up, and Ellie and Dina must also run from them.
Ellie is bitten again:
When trying to get through a turnstile gate, Ellie puts her arm out to be bitten by an infected person so that Dina would not be bitten or killed. Dina thinks that Ellie is going to turn, so she keeps her handgun aimed at Ellie until she is certain Ellie is telling the truth, that she is immune.
After Dina is convinced Ellie will be okay, she tells Ellie she is pregnant, and they share a moment of intense passion. They start working out a future together, but are interrupted by a bomb going off a ways away. Dina and Ellie go up on the roof to see what has happened and discover a possible location of Abby.
