A theater of Atlanta fans were given the opportunity to watch an early screening of Fox’s new series The Gifted with the show’s cast!
So Many Shows had the pleasure of attending the Atlanta screening of The Gifted pilot on the big screen. I can tell you up front that it was fantastic, chock-full of action, compelling characters, and even some humor here and there.
The show is filmed in Atlanta with the story being based there as well. This was extra special for the Atlanta audience to see Mutants operating underground in their hometown.
Mutants, you say? That’s right, The Gifted is rooted in the X-Men universe with connections to the Marvel universe as well.
Fans gathered in the theater and six members of the cast were escorted to the front to introduce the show and share some thoughts on filming in Atlanta.
Stephen Moyer (father, Reed Strucker), Amy Acker (mom, Kate Strucker), Natalie Alyn Lind (Lauren Strucker), Percy Hynes White (Andy Strucker), Emma Dumont (Lorna Dane aka Polaris), and Jamie Chung (Clarice Ferguson aka Blink) were excited for fans to see the fruits of their labor. They gave rave reviews of Atlanta’s hospitality but were not so impressed with its traffic. We were told that one actor (not named) had arrived just having completed one of their scenes!
In an unexpected turn, the cast then sat down amongst the fans to watch the pilot for the first time themselves. It’s safe to say I was fangirling with Jamie Chung sitting just a mere 6 seats down from me in our row!
But as the lights went down and the show began, my attention quickly shifted to the captivating opener on-screen.
The Strucker family leads the way as a tight-knit but not trouble-free family. Son Andy is struggling with bullies following him. Big sister Lauren has his back despite their typical sibling bickering. The father, Reed Strucker, has a career in law focused on keeping Mutants off the streets. And we suspect that mom, Kate, may have a job in the medical field. Typical American family, right? Well, let’s just say, not for long!
Meanwhile, we learn of an underground faction of Mutants evading the legal system and trying to help their fellow X-Gene comrades. On the other end of the spectrum we get a glimpse of Sentinel Services, a federal entity hunting Mutants.
All the characters are intriguing and quite believable in what appears to be unbelievable circumstances. The secret Mutant facility is likened to a secret clubhouse of “gifted” misfits. And the story plays out in very cinematic fashion with great sets, locations, and special effects.
Fans cheered throughout the episode and were treated to #MutantsUnite buttons upon leaving the theater. I definitely left charged and ready for more of The Gifted.
