The Expanse Season 4 – Amazon Saves The Day

Hoping for The Expanse Season 4? Thank Amazon!

Sometimes the harder parts of life are the “let downs” that come with it. One of those happened to us on May 10,2018 when SYFY decided to cancel a definite fan favorite, The Expanse.

Defined by the one of the show’s writers on twitter, we all became “belters.”  Super fans, belters have no permanent home, but they fight everyday to make themselves one. The fight is hard, but they keep going and never look back, only forward.

Then, sometimes out of the blue, there are those good parts of life. And those parts are the ones we strive for, the ones we aim for. And yesterday the words we all hoped would come, but weren’t positive they would, were uttered:

The Expanse has been saved!!!

We waited patiently for sixteen long days to hear those words. Authors like Chuck Wendig and Carole Barrowman were just as shocked and upset as we were that it got cancelled. They could be seen tweeting their dismay alongside the fans.

A lot of naysayers said there was no chance the show would be saved due to the cost of buying the rights. The Screaming Firehawks (the name of the fans that include myself) had no intention of letting that happen without a fight. And neither did the actors.

Cas Anvar, Dominique Tipper, Nick Taraby and Wes Chatham, were the biggest actors on the show to fight and urge fans to watch it live and continue the fight. They would live tweet during each airing and kept any of us from losing faith.

And know what? We didn’t lose faith.

From a crowdfunding campaign to send a banner over Amazon asking them to renew the Expanse, to sending a model of the Rocinante (the main ship on the show) into space, we forged ahead. We also pushed people to watch it live, which they did and each week our numbers seemed to increase – even if just a little. We also tweeted amazon like there was no tomorrow – for the show – technically, there wasn’t! A petition that gained over 140 thousand signatures started the same day as the cancellation was announced.

Success!

Then finally, it happened. Yesterday while the cast of The Expanse was at ISDC ( International Space Development Conference in Los Angeles ) discussing the science behind the show, the CEO of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, announced that Amazon was saving The Expanse in a heart warming speech that brought the audience and the cast members to their feet.

From tweets of thanks and adoration – to tears of joy, the Screaming Firehawks celebrated along with the actors. And with that, like a phoenix rising from the ashes of a raging inferno, The Expanse lives to continue to tell its intriguing story of life among the stars.

So, here’s to the numbers continuing to rise each week with the last five episodes of season three and then it’s off to our new home of Amazon Prime for season four. Thank you to everyone who fought for this and let us continue to enjoy the stellar storyline we receive each week.
