Arthur tries to step in for Reverend Jax this week on Perfect Harmony.
Unable to be two places at once, Reverend Jax accepts Arthur’s offer to look after things at the church while the reverend is gone. Arthur ends up babysitting and trying to put out an actual fire among other things while covering for Jax. Karla and Dwayne fight over soup ingredients. Arthur’s approach falls short for several situations. In the end, however, he finds a way to truly help some members of the community this week on Perfect Harmony.
In other news, Adams has private plans for the day. When she needs a ride home, Wayne is the only one available to help. The pair ends up bonding over karaoke.

Open doors
Arthur arrives to borrow the church’s washing machine and dryer. Reverend Jax is relieved upon Arthur’s arrival. The reverend needs someone to stay at the church while he runs some pastoral errands. Arthurs suggests that Jax just close the church for the day. Reverend Jax tells Arthur that the church never closes its doors saying, “Helping people never takes a break.”
Arthur learns that the church is a busy place even on a Monday. He encounters a mother dropping off her baby while she goes to a job interview. The youth group arrives expecting Reverend Jax to lead them in activities. Choir member Junior arrives feeling down. Karla and Dwayne are in the kitchen making soup for the volunteer firefighters.
Care-aoke
Reverend Jax has to stay longer with a parishioner and needs someone to pick up Adams from her appointment. After several calls, Wayne ends up being the only one available to help Adams. The sassy diner owner has had an elective procedure and needs a ride home. She is still under the influence of drugs used in the procedure.
In between goofy reactions to the drugs, Adams opens up with Wayne sharing that she had her eggs frozen. The pair arrives at Adams’ house and she gets really excited about her karaoke machine. Wayne decides to stick around for fear of leaving Adams alone with the effects of the anesthesia.
Wayne cares for his friend and the pair ends up bonding over a passionate karoake rendition of “Love Hurts” (in the style of the band Nazareth). Adams returns the favor by affirming Wayne’s parenting track record.
Backlash
Back at the church, some of Arthur’s advice and intervention have backfired. Junior’s wife is displeased with Arthur’s advice about Junior changing jobs. Barb misinterprets Arthur’s suggestion to her and she ends up pepper spraying Junior.
Parents of the youth group are angry with Arthur for attempting to provide some sex education to the inquisitive teenage boys. Karla and Dwayne end up ruining the soup and starting a fire when they follow Arthur’s advice of taking turns adding ingredients of their choice. An angry Dwayne adds his apron to the pot starting a fire in the kitchen.
Jax to the rescue
Jax returns with fire extinguisher in hand to put out the kitchen fire. He tasks the boys with watching the baby to learn a lesson about responsibility. The reverend smooths things over between Barb and Junior.
Arthur still manages to help out as well. He pays for the firefighters to eat at the diner. By babysitting baby Steve (with Ginny and Dwayne’s help!), the mother is able to go for the interview and gets the job.
Side “notes”
- Ginny shows signs of baby fever around baby Steve. Is she also experiencing feelings for Dwayne as he soothes the baby with his singing voice?
- Wayne’s falsetto during karaoke, enough said.
- Arthur calls Ginny a narc when she pleads for Reverend Jax to return.
- Arthur’s #ScarfWatch is 8 for 8 – looking like a permanent fixture.
