The Last Ship 404 Quick Review

The Last Ship 404 - Nosto - Mike Slattery (Adam Baldwin)
Take a moment to share:

3 Big Questions…

That lead to more questions.

Mike made it all the way to safety with the seeds, but will he survive?

Mike may not survive this. He bled freely for a -long- time and when he received help, his helper drugged him at the same time. Oops. In TV world, that single exposure to the drug and the awesome hallucinations that followed will probably entice Mike into further experimentation. He told us all, “I want to go back!” His crewmates didn’t know what he meant, but we do. I have faith in Mike though. He found enough strength to go on after a major stab wound – he can beat the lure of nosto.

Tom rejoined the crew, but is it only temporary?

I bet the next thing we hear out of Chandler’s mouth is how bad he needs to get back to his kids, back to Greece, or just off the ship in general. Don’t count on it. Storywise, Mike led that away mission in order to get him injured and create a void on the bridge of the Nathan James. Meylan should take command and likely LTCMDR Kara Green should step in as XO. That’s the plan when Tom Chandler isn’t available anyway. I bet a series of things happen that will leave the James without a captain, forcing Tom to save their butts.

Giorgio shot Omar in the back, but is that the last we’ll see of him?

Now that we have seen a fuller view of the power structure in the area, Omar could possibly fall out of the scene without anyone missing him. Don’t count on it. The guy staged that raid in Spain just to slice up poor Mahmood. If Giorgio’s going to operate like a gangster he needs to execute like one too: headshots. I bet Omar recovers and focuses his efforts on hunting Giorgio down.

The Last Ship 404 - Dr. Paul Vellek (Peter Weller)

Bonus Question: What’s Up With Giorgio’s Dad?

Peter Weller, former Robocop and director of several Last Ship episodes, finally appears in front of the camera in his true role: This season’s human big-bad (the virus will always be the biggest-bad). He plays Dr. Paul Vellek, Giorgio and Lucia’s father, local underworld boss, unofficial admiral of the remnants of the Greek navy, and… seed researcher? What is he up to? Could he possibly have altruistic intentions? Sort of a “I plan on saving the world my way,” kind of thing? A guy who’s cool with to-the-death fighting pits probably has a selfish version of saving the world in mind…

Was This Episode Any Good?

Definitely. We’ve never really had a Mike-centric episode before. Although the nostro drug brought on his hallucinations, we still saw a version of his family and how strongly he still feels about them. In fact, this kind of episode worries me. I’d hate for Mike’s walk down memory lane to actually be his send-off. C’mon Captain Slattery! Don’t go back to the light! We still need you!
