Instinct Episode 2

When we last left our heroes, they were sitting at Lizzie’s table eating pizza. But it’s a new week and a new case has appeared. Did Dylan decide to help Lizzie with her work? Will Lizzie accept a new partner? Does Andy know that Dylan has gotten back into field work? Let’s find out.

The Murder

We see Sebastian Trevor (Christopher Shyer) talking with Nora Ceccino about the money Nora and her husband Roman (Bill Heck) owe and how he would gain ownership of their restaurant if they couldn’t pay. With that Nora tells him that they made a deal with the devil and leaves.

We then see Sebastian out for a jog and have a chat with his wife, Selena (played by Jeanette Dilone) who is in Columbia. After they talk, he is shot by an arrow. We see a mysterious figure loom over him and then we cut to him strung up by his arms, his head shaven, and bread shoved into his mouth.

The return of Detective Lizzie

Lizzie is back at work after taking two weeks off. She is the lead detective on Sebastian’s case.

LT. Jasmine (played by Sharon Leal) asks her if she’s alright to be back. After a discussion about Lizzie’s health, Jasmine tells Lizzie that she needs to find a partner. She plainly lets her know that she was giving her space because of what happened to Charlie, but it was time she got a partner and mentions Dylan.

Lizzie lets us know that Dylan has gone back to teaching and doesn’t want to be involved, but did say if it piqued his interest he would help.

I love the powerful women of this show. They are the power behind it and I can’t wait to watch the power struggle between her and Jasmine. I am hoping though that they don’t take it too far because there isn’t that many great female friendships on TV that don’t always end up with them at each other’s throats.

Meanwhile Dylan…

Is teaching a class on defining abnormal behavior. After scaring one of his students for taking notes instead of really listening, he concludes class.

Joan calls Dylan in to talk about his next book. She notices that Lizzie keeps trying to call, but he isn’t answering. Joan tells him to answer the call or she doesn’t foresee him ever getting the book written. She believes that unless he helps out with the crimes, he won’t ever get his mojo back and write another best seller.

I love the fact you find out that he has let Andy in on him helping the police. That takes out the drama of Andy getting upset he was lied to. I also think it’s wonderful about how supportive Andy is, even going as far as telling Dylan that he loves seeing him excited for something.

The Second Murder

After viewing the body and interviewing Selena, Roman and Haley, the chef at the restaurant, Lizzie and Dylan try to piece things together by also going to the Cecchino’s farm where they meet Gwen (played by Margo Seibert) – an old friend of Roman and Nora’s.

While responding to a disturbance at Cecchino’s restaurant, they find Haley’s body displayed bizarrely on a table.

I am liking how the suspects aren’t all just men and they keep throwing loops into it to keep you guessing.

And our killer is…

After some additional digging into the personal lives of their suspects and a clue dropped by Selena about being a “white knight,” they figure out who the killer is.

They rush to the farm where they save Nora from Gwen, who not only took the couple’s daughter out of school, but also has Nora tied up and locked in the grain holder.

Dylan let’s us know that Gwen was abused by her father and that Roman was her knight and she was protecting him from those she saw as threats. She killed Sebastian for threatening the restaurant. She killed Haley because she felt it was her fault that Roman was always away from the farm, and she was going to kill Nora for separating from him and making him upset. In the end she is arrested and the Cecchino family is reunited.

And in the end

Both Dylan and Lizzie admit they have things to work on, but they would make a great partnership in solving crime.

Even though we knew it was coming, I like how the partnership is from a place of mutual understanding and respect and not from a place of physical attraction. I can’t wait for the next episode!

    “piqued his interest”, not “peeked”
