ID CON 2018!
New York City was awash in True Crime as Discovery’s #IDCon2018 took over Manhattan – and Wendy and I couldn’t help but check it out!
A huge number of Investigation Discovery fans from across the county gathered to celebrate the channel, and their stars. Take a look at the shows involved (and some amazing pictures of the stars with Wendy and myself) and then I’ll give you a breakdown of all the amazing things to do while visiting ID Con! Also included is our interviews with Rod Demery and Chris Anderson

Scene of the Crime with Tony Harris explores the secret world behind the crime. In this immersive and investigative series, Emmy-Award-winning journalist Tony Harris reveals a family, a neighborhood, an entire town, changed forever.
Homicide Hunter is a non-fiction investigative series of murder cases told through the personal experience of retired detective, Lieutenant Joe Kenda. In personal interviews, Kenda will captivate us with the details of a different investigation each week.
Homicide Detective Rod Demery has a very personal connection to crime. His mother was murdered, and his brother is a murderer. Every episode we’ll watch Rod solve another tangled murder case from his files, with the help of his interrogation skills on Murder Chose Me.
Reasonable Doubt‘s Chris and Fatima investigate further to see if a case may have been wrongly convicted. They look in places that may not have yet been scrutinized and find thing that may help change outcomes of peoples lives.
Deadly Women investigates the motives and m.o. of female murderers. While males are often driven by anger, impulse and destruction, women usually have more complex, long-term reasons to kill.
True Conviction reveals the real-life stories of how homicides are solved on the street and won in the courtroom. Host Anna-Sigga Nicolazzi, a decorated Brooklyn prosecutor, takes you inside the fight for justice for victims and their loved ones.
Each week on “Breaking Homicide,” former Rhode Island Police Detective Derrick Levasseur and Forensic Psychologist Kris Mohandie will answer the pleas of a desperate family and investigate the cold case murder of their loved one.

The Experience
ID CON 2018 was full of energy and a very lively atmosphere even though half the shows featured are about tragedy and murder. The most important thing I learned at ID Con is that these shows really focus on how to get justice and hopefully peace of mind for the victims and their families. The message is clear: We will not give up the hunt for justice.
There was a lot going on at ID Con including live panels with our favorite Investigation Discovery personalities. Photo sessions with each member of the panels including a red carpet feel when going side to side with some big TV names. These television favorites can be described as nothing less than “class acts” for the duration of the whole event.
The event starts off with 2 panels: Cold Case Confidential and Catching Killers. I received one heck of an education on how investigations actually work. The discussed the use of DNA and other forms of modern technology to help investigators get closer to solving murders. At the end of each panel they took questions from fans and the line circled the entire venue with eager people waiting to say thank you or ask a general question about there favorite shows and cases.
This event had everything covered – including snacks and lunch that were provided. Good stuff! There were lots of great activities for guests of the con. Here’s a quick breakdown of some of them:
TRIVIA:
It was all out trivia war when some of the greatest fans of ID were able to participate in this contest. The person with the most correct (and fastest) answers won a $2,500 Princess Cruise gift card. Too bad they didn’t offer a prize for last place because sadly that is where I would up. The ID super fandom was the real deal – I just couldn’t compete!
ID SNAPSHOTS:
Crack a cold case or became a cold case and receive a cold case photo frame. Fans had the choice of many options – I chose guilty. It just seemed to fit the moment with everyone in line talking and yes, I even got some laughs.
LIE TO ME:
My favorite activity of this whole con. Fans get hooked up to a real polygraph with real examiners! I’ve never been through one of these – and after trying to convince myself of this “whole story in my mind” in an attempt to beat it, I actually thought I did. Only to find out, it wasn’t real and doesn’t quite work like that. I gave myself a good laugh due to some embarrassment, but I still walked away smiling!
ID INK:
Get a temporary tattoo but make memory that will last forever. This was a fun one with a varitey of different tatoos to choose.I picked a investigate tattoo and i was so excitied to be able to take a piece of idcon2018 home with me literally. It did wash off but was so much fun.
CHALK WALL:
A giant chalk board inviting all ID addicts to confess their love for everything ID. The wall filled quickly from fans writing about their favorite shows and actors. Each fan within the sold out venue definitely left a piece of their “ID hearts” behind.
STILL A MYSTERY:
Evidence board of unsolved cases featured in the ID digital series Still A Mystery. I reviewed each case on the board and I couldn’t wait to get home and start this series. Had to see if i could solve the case. (I couldn’t.)
RED CRIMES:
Be a detective, investigate crime scenes and seek hidden clues in ID’s new mobile game: Red Crimes Hidden Murders. This was a really cool game that was displayed on a giant TV. Yes, I did get the pleasure of playing it a few times and I found this game to be really amazing. The graphics are top notch and it’s a game that keeps your mind sharp. Anyone can and everyone should download and play this game.
ID WITNESS:
Be an eyewitness at a crime scene and then test your detective skills. You get a limited amount of time to look at a crime scene photo, memorize every detail, and see if you can answer questions about what you just studied. I remember a few tricky tests like this when I was in school. I loved it back then and I still love it now. These tests are so much fun – testing your mind and skills when it comes to how your quickly (and well) your mind downloads and projects what it just saw.
ID ADDICT:
Perhaps the most popular activity! An opportunity for fans to put on some make up, get prepared and chat about their favorite ID shows/actors within a private setting. I didn’t get a chance to participate as another panel was about to begin – But did chat with a few fans in line… They had plenty of amazing things to say about their favorite ID shows.
The afternoon section of the event was anchored by two panels. The first: People Magazine Investigates: Cults which looks amazing. It definitely sparked my interest – and by the reactions of the crowd – everyone else as well! Next up: Get to know Joe! – A tell-all panel with ID’s very own Joe Kenda, hosted by Tony Harris. Everyone was hanging off every word these two said.
The event ended with a Homicide Hunter walk-on role giveaway. Needless to say, I didn’t win – but congrats to the winner!
ID CON was a small venue con with a big con feel. My only “complaint” – it was only one day and not more. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming and there were good vibes and fun for all ages at every exhibit. I was truly amazed by how much attention to detail they provided. And the staff… the staff! They were so polite and made you feel like they were there to help you in any way needed. To sum it up… ID CON 2018 in one word: MARVELOUS.
I could not ask to have had a better time. Is it too early to register for next year?
