The Atlanta campus of SCAD celebrates its new FORTY FIVE complex.
The FORTY FIVE complex in Midtown Atlanta is open and functioning for the SCAD 2023-24 academic year. The impressive facility includes the brand new, state-of-the-art SCADshow theater, high-tech classrooms, additional residential spaces and more.
The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) graduates bring their many talents to a host of creative careers. Here at So Many Shows, we specifically celebrate TV in its many forms. SCAD alumni help bring television to life as actors, directors, set dressers, animators and more throughout the industry. Students have the opportunity to earn a minor in casting. This program benefits from a fully functional Casting Office located on both the Atlanta and Savannah campuses. SCAD is the only university that offers a Casting Office, and it is available to students, alumni and faculty.
The FORTY FIVE facilities further enhance the immersive curriculum that makes SCAD alumni so very well-qualified for creative careers. The name FORTY FIVE pays tribute to the number of years it has been since President Paula Wallace founded the university in 1978. I recently had the opportunity to tour the complex for an up close and personal look at its incredible offerings.
Collaboration
FORTY FIVE sits adjacent to SCAD Court, a beautiful courtyard with a theatrical sized LED screen for outdoor screenings and events. SCAD emphasizes student collaboration among majors to enrich their experience in preparation for jobs across the arts. Facilities have been designed with this collaboration in mind. Places like SCAD Court, a rooftop residential pool and the SCADfit wellness center offer great opportunities for students to gather together on campus. The Ex Libris university bookstore is also part of the complex and is open to both students and the public.
Performance
FORTY FIVE is also home to the brand new SCADshow theater, which offers 2 stages. The larger theater seats 700 and includes balcony seating. The smaller theater seats 150 offering a more intimate setting well-suited for master class style presentations and other events designed with a smaller audience in mind.
SCADshow accomodates festivals, performances and industry events for both students and the public. The recent SCAD Animation Fest utilized the theater spaces for festival screenings and discussion panels.
Instruction
Interactive classrooms make up a large part of the FORTY FIVE location. On the tour, we learned about environmentally sound practices employed in workshop spaces that protect students and air quality. The classrooms boast state-of-the-art hands-on technology including impressive 3D and large-scale printing devices.
SCAD has a long history of dedicating the best resources to their students to prepare them for careers in the arts. The recent expansion of the Atlanta campus to include the FORTY FIVE complex is very much aligned with this goal.
