Emergence on ABC looks hopeful for sci-fi enthusiasts

EMERGENCE (ABC/Virginia Sherwood) ALLISON TOLMAN, ALEXA SWINTON
Take a moment to share:

Emergence comes to ABC on September 24th, but you can watch the first several minutes now.

ABC Network has made the first 9 minutes of the Emergence pilot available on Twitter. The new series stars Allison Tolman as police chief Jo and Alexa Swinton as her mysterious young charge. The mysteries unfold in the coastal town of Southold.

Wondering what you can expect?

There is a mysterious power outage followed by unexplained lights in the sky and the discovery of a plane crash on shore. No survivors appear to be present, but a quiet young girl hides in the dunes. Police Chief Jo finds the little girl and offers her the comfort of her police jacket. As a law enforcement officer, Jo makes a connection with the girl over her Toy Story t-shirt (you know, since Toy Story‘s Woody is a sheriff).

Things become more mysterious when the girl claims no memory of the events that brought her to town . Furthermore, the doctor who examines her at the hospital reports that she has no physical injuries. Could she possibly have survived a plane crash with no injuries?

You've been chosen to experience the first 9 minutes of #Emergence before the premiere on 9/24! Watch now, and ❤️ this Tweet to receive weekly updates & exclusive content as the season unfolds on ABC. https://t.co/alGoZ3BKdE

The Chief agrees to sit with the girl as she falls asleep. The new friends bond over a game of guessing candy colors. They are interrupted by the noise of authorities asking questions and making demands. Jo claims her jurisdiction and sends the NTSB agents on their way. She returns to the girl’s room to find that she has vanished.

Jo gets a call from fellow officer Chris (played by Robert Bailey, Jr.) who claims that NTSB agents have arrived at the site of the plane crash. But, wait. This is a different set of agents. Who were the agents who first arrived asking questions?

Police chief Jo is desperate to find her new young friend. She anxiously turns the engine on her vehicle to no avail. Suddenly the rain on her windshield changes its trajectory and is moving sideways across the  windshield instead of falling down the glass. The mysterious girl reveals herself in the backseat and begs, “Don’t be mad.”

Let’s rally

What’s not to like? Mystery, supernatural occurrences, the maternal-like bond between law enforcement and child in need are all elements that make us hopeful for an intriguing story.

Sadly, some fan favorite sci-fi series have been all too short lived. Let’s rally together and give Emergence a chance to steal our hearts and intrigue our minds as we explore the origin of the plane and the “emergence” of this brave young girl.

Watch live and share your support with hashtag #Emergence on social media. What do you think? Maybe fans should declare themselves the “Emergers” (#Emergers)?

Emergence premieres on ABC Network on 9/24.
