Pete and Mike discuss The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2 episode 1
What is a mashup podcast?
Good question. We define a mashup podcast as combining conversations about certain shows or episodes. However, there is no rhyme or reason for how we choose the discussion topics. The purpose is mainly to recap specific show moments quickly and have fun talking about them.
Premise:
The series follows Maggie and Negan as they travel into a post-apocalyptic Manhattan, cut off from the mainland, searching for Maggie’s kidnapped son, Hershel. The crumbling city is filled with the dead and denizens who have made New York City their world, full of chaos, danger, beauty, and terror.
Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan reprise their roles as Maggie and Negan from the original The Walking Dead television series, with Gaius Charles, Željko Ivanek, Mahina Napoleon, Lisa Emery, Logan Kim, Dascha Polanco, and Keir Gilchrist also starring. Development of the series began in March 2022.
The first season consisted of six episodes and premiered on June 18, 2023. In July 2023, the series was renewed for a second season, which premiered on May 4, 2025.
Pete and Mike:
We like to have fun with these mashup podcasts, so sometimes we forget the characters’ names. However, to respect the two characters’ names we forgot during this podcast episode, I want to praise them here.
Lisa Emery plays The Dama, one of the group leaders, who convinces Negan to help her. In watching the behind-the-scenes look at the episode, Jeffrey Dean Morgan says that Lisa is a sweetheart off-camera. However, when the camera is filming her, she is a good psycho.
Kim Coates plays Bruegel, the leader of one of the fiercest gangs. And I enjoyed Kim’s addition to the series and loved his character in Sons of Anarchy.
