Ballard is set to drop on Wednesday, July 9.

Renée Ballard:

Background:

Michael Connelly’s first book featuring Renée Ballard was released in 2017, titled The Late Show. She then unofficially partnered up with Harry Bosch in the following five novels. Dark Sacred Night (2018), The Night Fire (2019), The Dark Hours (2021), Desert Star (2022), and The Waiting (2024)

Bosch: Legacy season 3 episode 10 titled ‘Dig Down’ is where we first meet Maggie Q as Renée. She and Bosch have a bit of back-and-forth as they look into four cases that are connected.

Release day:

Prime Video has set Wednesday, July 9, as the premiere date for the Bosch spinoff Ballard, starring Maggie Q. All 10 episodes will be released simultaneously, exclusively on Prime Video. So, by all means, let us get our binge on!

Ballard will follow Detective Renée Ballard (Maggie Q) as she leads the LAPD’s new and underfunded cold case division, tackling the city’s most challenging long-forgotten crimes with empathy and relentless determination. Additionally, as she peels back layers of crimes spanning decades, including a serial killer’s string of murders and a murdered John Doe, she soon uncovers a dangerous conspiracy within the LAPD.

With the help of her volunteer team and retired detective Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver), Detective Ballard navigates personal trauma, professional challenges, and life-threatening dangers to expose the truth. However, word is that Harry Bosch will only appear in three episodes of Season 1. Will his role expand if there are future seasons? I hope so.

Ballard cast:

John Carroll Lynch (American Horror Story) joins the cast as retired detective Thomas Laffont, who uses his free time to assist Renée in her investigations. Courtney Taylor (Neon) will play Samira Parker, a mysterious woman on a quest for justice.

Prime Video and Michael Connelly have also announced additional cast members. Michael Mosley (The Calling), Rebecca Field (Shameless), Victoria Moroles (Plan B), and Amy Hill (Mom) will all be part of the spinoff’s ensemble cast.

Given that we all fell in love with the supporting cast in Bosch and Bosch: Legacy, can we expect the supporting cast in Ballard match up?
