When we last left Annalise Keating on How to Get Away with Murder it is unclear if she is stable or unstable. Is she sober or drunk with guilt?
Season 4 of How to Get Away with Murder picks up with the “Annalise Interns” trying to find a sense of normalcy since the death of Wes in season 3.
In true Shonda Rhimes fashion we learn that Laurel Castillo (played by Karla Souza) knows her father killed Wes. She is indeed pregnant and has lied to her father Jorge Castillo (played by Esai Morales) about the pregnancy.
We find Ms. Keating visiting old ghosts of her childhood while checking on her mother (played by Cicely Tyson) who is in the early stages of dementia. It is always a pleasure to see the incomparable Cicely Tyson make an appearance in the episode.
In a “Last Supper” type of symbolism Annalise releases everyone from any obligations they have to her. She provides each of them with a glowing recommendation letter that she insisted be used to find another internship. I am not sure if she gives these letters to her students to draw them closer or to push them further away.
Admittedly, I was caught off guard with the dismissal of Bonnie Winterbottom (played by Liza Weil). She can be fickle with her feelings and lash out in retaliation when pushed too hard. But is this a smart move on Annalise’s part?
This season of How to Get Away with Murder is set to be one heck of a ride! I’m positive there will be many twists and turns which will leave fans wanting more.
What now?
After watching this episode, I am left with three questions:
- Will Bonnie turn on Annalise?
- Can Annalise stay sober?
- Will Frank and Annalise reunite?
