NBC: The InBetween

Parapsychological visions. Communicating with the dead. Sometimes the toughest cases need a little extra help. Welcome to NBC’s The InBetween.

Overall Thoughts:

Not sure what exactly to expect, I checked out the show with an open mind – And I’m glad I did.

It’s an interesting mix of “procedural drama meets supernatural suspense.”

The opening few minutes of the pilot bring you into Cassie’s strange and spooky world almost immediately – and it continues throughout. Our law enforcement professionals are fairly typical – but bring us a good mix of investigators. (I really like Justin Cornwell’s character, Damian Asante).

It’s going to be interesting to see how the various personalities work together over the course of an entire season. Will they always believe? Will they always trust? How well will Cassie handle her talents?

Some moments are very intense, and even a little scary – you might want to keep the lights on. On the flip side – there’s also quite a few emotional moments as well!

Initial Ratings:

So Many Shows Scoring 1-10: 7.9

High points: Characters (Interactions and dialogue), “Thriller Aspect” (The supernatural elements and overall presentation)

Potential low points:  There’s a lot to learn about each character and their respective individual stories. This is a show you’ll need to invest in to learn everything. So, while this isn’t a “low point” for me – If you’re looking for just some quick entertainment – this probably isn’t the show for you, as it’s going to take some time to understand all the nuances within the show.

Final thoughts: I like it, but I wonder what type of viewer this show will capture… Those that prefer a procedural-type show – or those that like a world of mystery and intrigue? My suggestion: Open your mind and investigate the series. It’s a paranormal procedural you just might enjoy!

More:

Moira Kirkland (Medium, Hawaii 5-0, Madam Secretary) writes and executive produces this supernatural-esque drama.

This new series stars Harriet Dyer (“Cassie Bedford”), Justin Cornwell (“Damien Asante”), Anne-Marie Johnson (“Lt. Swanstrom”), Cindy Luna (“Det. Maria Salinas”), Chad James Buchanan (“Will”), and Paul Blackthorne (“Tom Hackett”).

The InBetween premieres Wednesday, May 29th at 10/9c on NBC. Find out more at NBC.com
