The Gifted S2 Episode 2

Tucson, Arizona Three years ago

We start this weeks episode, seeing John Proudstar’s past – at a fight club in Tucson Arizona, three years ago. He’s approached by a former X-men named Avangeline (played by Erinn Ruth).

During a break in the fights she tells him that the X-men had chosen him to lead the mutant underground in Atlanta.

Present Day- D.C. hideout Marcos’s room

As Marcos makes a gift for the baby, John comes in and asks him if he’s alright. Clearly he’s not, but I believe Marcos really appreciates John coming in.

Marco’s then tells him about the expensive champagne he bought for the occasion. He also mentions that no matter how many times he looks through the files he finds nothing. John tells him he might know someone who can help.

More good news

The good news keeps coming as Clarice and Lauren tell Jazmine they found her sister at another mutant refugee camp. And they where going go get her.

Pillow talk

That night John tells Clarice about Avangeline and how she saved him from his drug addiction.

When she wakes up the next morning, she realizes he hasn’t slept. The guilt of Atlanta is wearing on him.

He’s not the only one having a bad time

Natalie Alyn Lind in the “unMoored” episode of THE GIFTED ©2018 Fox Broadcasting Co. Cr: Guy D’Alema/FOX.

Once again Lauren has the nightmare of her on the roof with Andy – of him grabbing her hand to use their powers and not letting go.

This time though she’s able to let go, but falls off the roof… And she wakes up with a start.

From bad night to bad morning

She plays on her laptop as she listens to her parents fight.

This time they hold no verbal punches.

When Reed tells Kate, who is going with Marcos and John, that she just can’t leave her family. She snaps back and asks him what he would do if it was his precious little girl aka Lauren.

They both mostly come to the conclusion that each other are the ones not there for the family.

As soon as Kate leaves, Reed takes out a box of his dads paper work. We are about to hear one of them when Lauren comes in and asks if he’s ok. He says he is, and after a brief time of showing her photos. Ones he oddly got of her Instagram. All of them being of her and her brother and only one of her parents.

I think Reed is starting to worry they are becoming close like his grandparents.

After him saying again he’s fine, She gets annoyed and leaves.

I feel really bad for Lauren at this point as she has a mother who only cares about her brother, and a father who won’t let her in.

Reunited and it feels so bad

Marcos, Kate, and John show up and Avangelines office. As she is now a mutant rights attorney.

After chiding them for coming to her office, as they are fugitives. She looks at the data they’ve brought.

She finds out that The Circle has been gathering weapons, buildings and that’s what the money transfers are all about.

They ask for help from the other safe houses but she refuses. As she has lost faith in John and won’t put the others at risk.

She basically says she made a mistake takin John in as the leader.

After they leave disappointed, John goes back to try again, but all she’ll give him is a name of someone who might help.

And even tells him to his face she was stupid to ever give him hope.

A reunion of sisters

Well Jazmine is getting checked at the medical center by Reed, Clarice and Lauren bring in her sister.

After they embrace, Reed asks if Clarice can get them settled in.

An angry daughter

Reed tries to talk to Lauren. Ask her how she is. But all she tells him is that all their fighting is hurting her and About how they haven’t talked about that day in Atlanta.

And with that she leaves.

Emotions can be powerful things

As soon as his daughter leaves Reeds headache comes back. And his arm starts to glow and as he hits the wall, His hand burns the wall in.

A romantic moment

John and Clarice have a romantic moment, that obviously led to more fun off camera.

And when John gets out of bed after their night of fun, He goes to the nearest junk car and beats the hell out of it. While doing so, he thinks of all the friends he’s lost.

A drink on the balcony

Marcos joins Kate out on the balcony as she waits for Reed and Lauren to get home from the clinic.

They toast to the baby. Once Kate goes inside Marcos downs the rest of the bottle before smashing it.

And after thinking of the night he made light for Lorna, with the green pendant he made for the baby and the glass pieces he makes a green ray of light through the sky.

His hope is that Lorna sees it.

The Inner Circle

We quickly learn that Reeva is not happy. The little electrical outage caused by the birth of Dawn was front page news.

She then lets the Frost Sister’s know that they are to take care of the loose ends. She is of course talking about the two security guards and the owner of the building they used.

Esme Frost

Skyler Samuels as the Frost Sisters in the “unMoored” episode of THE GIFTED ©2018 Fox Broadcasting Co. Cr: FOX.

Not really sure they should, Esme tried to reason with Reeva only to be shot down.

Her sisters also say that she has gotten soft from the time she was with the mutant underground.

Getting rid of evidence: The Frost way

After killing the two guards, with the help of Fade and Bulk, they track down David Hine (played by Mark Rowe), the boss they paid off, and they make him start walking toward a moving plane propeller.

We quickly learn though Esme has other plans and has a truck hit him instead. When her sisters say she ruins their fun, she retorted with “that’s what you get for calling me soft”.

I think Esme is having second thoughts about their ruthlessness as we see later in the episode.

Andy Strucker

Everyone needs a goodnight sleep but Andy is getting one. He keeps dreaming the same dream Lauren had but he sees her fall of the building thanks to him.

Pep talk from big sister Lorna

Sometimes coffee is a must but when Lorna sees Andy’s cup just over filling, she rushes into save him.

Joking that she should be the tired one, she asks what’s wrong. He says nothing and assures her he’s ready for the field test Reeva has set up.

Andy crashes

During his test Andy sees flashes of Lauren falling and instead of breaking the last wall he runs into it.

Reeva asks if something is bothering and Andy just said he was fine. He has a lot of his dad in him.

Reeva is cautious

Worried Andy might be betraying them she sends Fade to follow him. Fade catches Andy buying a cell phone and then trying to call his sister.

Contacting Family

Andy calls the clinic and asks for Lauren but his dad picks up instead. He sits on the line listening to his dad ask whose calling and then hangs up.

Fade lets Reeva know about this.

Big sister Lorna gives some advice

Andy goes to talk to Lorna who tells him that whatever’s wrong he has to be careful, that Reeva will kill him if she senses disloyalty.

Upon telling Lorna that he is homesick, we see Lorna look homesick for Marcos.

Like all wonderful moments, Dawn starts crying for food and Lorna has to cut their conversation short.

Leaving, Andy had the look of a child who isn’t getting the attention he needs. He once again is being left out for everyone else.

Second test

Percy Hynes White in the “unMoored” episode of THE GIFTED ©2018 Fox Broadcasting Co. Cr: Guy D’Alema/FOX.

Once again Andy sees Lauren and crashes into the last wall.

Reeva asks the girls what’s wrong with him and they say he’s missing his sister.

Esme stepping up

After Reeva says she will access the situation and he will have to die if she doesn’t get what she wants, Esme steps up.

Looking sick, Esme says he’s only fifteen. Reeva gets right up in her face and says the she doesn’t like it but it has to be done for the future.

Esme having a backbone is great to see. She obviously sees things a little clearer than her sisters.

Mama Reeva

We have seen Andy break walls and phones and now a ball in just one episode.

After smashing the ball, Reeva comes in and asks him if anything is wrong. He says it’s just a bad day.

Reeva then tells him a story about her friend that got killed by the purifiers (people who hate mutants) because she was focused on a fight they had and her powers didn’t work.

When he didn’t answer she headed to the door and was about to do her cry of death when he stands up.

Andy opens up

I think this is the moment where we see that Andy is looking for someone to believe in him.

He tells her about the call and the dream. He says that he will just try to forget about his sister but..

Is told by Reeva to hold on to that feeling of wanting his sister. She tells him the new world their going to build is for her as well.

She then hugs Andy and he hugs her back. He found the one person that would be there for him as well as others.

Third times the charm

This time our boy got through all the solid walls and even got a standing ovation from Reeva.

In another part of the building

Lorna is laying in bed when she sees a green light. Smiling, she stands up and while telling dawn that daddy’s saying hello heads to the crib.

When reaching down to pick up Dawn, she feels that she’s really hot and picking her up the episode ends with her screaming for help.

I’m guessing the reunion of Lorna and Marcos as seen in the previews isn’t going to be what we all want.

Back in Atlanta

Detective Jace Turner

Is finally moving on with his life. But when he reads about the power outages he starts going down the dark road of wanting revenge again.

Through his wife we learn he has all the mutant underground files in their attic. She wants him to move on. He promises he will.

A drink with a friend

Ah all the lies we tell. Jace met up with one of his old cop buddies to tell him he thinks the black out was caused by mutants.

See…

Everyone thinks it was a lightning storm that knocked out a power box because that’s what Reeva’s political friends made sure was the story.

Back to the drink

His friend then tells him to stop chasing conspiracy theories. He also let Jace know that if he kept chasing the past he was going to loose what he had now.

Paula comes home

After a very long day at work and finds Jace throwing away the files.

When she asks him if he is sure, Jace replies that he has to let go of the past to keep and make a future.

Paula is so happy to hear this and the two hug tightly.

I really hope, as much as the character is interesting, they allow Jace his happy ending and let his story end here.

But there’s more to tell…

As seen in the preview…

Marcos is needed to save Dawn and when he is shown being told to leave, he doesn’t leave quietly.

I could hope that Marcos and Lorna will reconnect but we all know that wouldn’t make for great television, at-least not now.

The Gifted airs on Tuesdays at 8/7c. on Fox.
