Instinct Episode 7

With basketball season upon us, the latest episode of Instinct fits right in. Will Lizzie and Dylan be able to catch a killer while dealing with their own private love lives? Jasmine sure hopes so.

The Crime:

The episode starts with LT. Gooden approaching Lizzie and telling her she just had to identify her friend Abby’s body. We also get to meet Jasmine’s fiancé, David Wu for the first time. Supposedly Abby had run her car over a bridge going eighty miles over the speed limit. While everyone thought it was an apparent suicide, Dylan didn’t think so and he was proved right when they got Abby’s 9-11 call from that day saying someone was trying to kill her.

Our victim:

Abby Wright was the owner of the New York Hudson’s. She was finalizing plans to move the team to Las Vegas which earned her a lot of flack from fans – reminding me of how the Raiders fans in Oakland are not happy their team is moving to Nevada themselves, me being one of them. Now back to the story.

She was holding her annual fundraising gala when according to Jasmine, people started grabbing at her. She got upset and flipped out on everyone and when she finally calmed down, she headed inside with her husband. After David found her bracelet, Jasmine headed inside to return it. That was the last time that she saw Abby alive. Supposedly, she had stolen the car she crashed in as well. Jasmine also mentions she saw a man walking around that wasn’t security detail who had a gun – though he disappeared before security could find him.

The First Suspect

Tomohawk aka Tom Sarkeysian. Tom is a vlogger that had snuck into Abby’s party that day. He was very vocal about her not having any rights to move their beloved team. They were led to him when a piece of his grabbed blue (the color of the car) ‘69 mustang was found in the wheel of her car. After claiming she hit his parked car, they checked it out and the video showed her driving erratically and did in-fact hit his parked car, scrapping him as a suspect.

The next suspect is Uri Marshak.

They caught up to him after they ran the plates of a car following Abby. Jasmine recognizes him as the man she saw outside the party. They track him down and he tells him he was hired by Russell Wright to follow his wife – to keep her safe after she received bomb threats. Another dead end.

The Third Suspect is

The third suspect was the Wright’s housekeeper, Sofia, who after eight years of service mysteriously disappeared after she called police and they labeled it a robbery that was never followed up on. They couldn’t find her though, leaving them high and dry.

Super Dylan to the rescue

While at his husband’s bar, a fight breaks out and someone puts another person in a headlock to subdue them. Dylan remembers a lesson on hypoxia, the lack of oxygen to the brain causing confusion, difficulty speaking and lack of coordination – all signs Abby was exhibiting and realized she had been being strangled daily over a long period of time.

They turn their attention to the husband and with the help of Uri, they track Sofia to a church where she is staying because of her immigration status and there they get the confirmation of the ongoing abuse she had witnessed. She had called the cops while Russell was attacking Abby just in case they would catch him. She knew she couldn’t go back, so she went to the church.

Dylan also concluded that Abby was moving the team because in her subconscious that meant she might get away from her abuser.

They arrest Russell while he is planing his wife’s funeral. This was a hard episode because you wonder how many other silent sufferers there are that don’t know how to get away.

But some light-hearted and feel good moments happened for both our detectives.

First up Dylan

After a fight with Andy, Dylan tries to make things right by going to Andy’s bar while he is watching the basketball finals. He has learned some basketball lingo and is even wearing a Hudson’s baseball cap. He tells Andy that he’s jealous because he couldn’t understand Andy on an emotional level especially since as a kid he was never picked for any teams.

In the cutest scene ever Andy says “I picked you for my team.” That hit all the right feelings. At the end of the episode Dylan is wearing a jersey with the name Wilson on the back. It’s his husband’s last name. Andy got it for him to show him they’re a team.

And then little Lizzie

Lizzie has been more chipper in the last couple episodes. When a mechanic named Steve asks her out she is scared, but Dylan tells her she is ready. Even though their first date goes awkwardly, (Lizzie literally spends the whole time showing him crime scene photos before she’s called to work) they end up making a second one at the end of the episode.

I love how this show loves to show natural progression. Nothing’s rushed and people react in a natural way to circumstances.
