Younger Season 6 Episode 9: Millennial’s Next Top Model

Younger Season 6 Episode 9

"Younger" Ep. 609 (Airs 8/14/19)

Younger Season 6 Episode 9

Last week Liza’s big secret was revealed. I’ve been following the Facebook group chats, and everyone agrees Pauline acted selfishly by outing Liza like that. Especially after stating they should all act like adults as the divorce is coming to a close. Why not address it with Liza directly? Some people think Pauline was hurt more by Charles choosing a woman her age than by the thought he left for a younger woman. What do you think?

Put Out the Fire

Now Millennial is dealing with the aftermath of the big reveal; agents are canceling meetings, and a potential deal with the clothing company, Infinitely 21, is in jeopardy. Zane is fired up about Liza’s lie; he Kelsey should fire Liza. Fuel is added to his flame when he realized Kelsey knew about Liza’s age before Pauline announced it and he storms out.

Later, Kelsey is calling and leaving messages for Zane. Kelsey threatens he may not have a job if he doesn’t respond soon. Diana suggests he’s probably not actually upset with Liza, but instead with Kelsey.

Infinitely 21

Kelsey and Liza’s meeting with the marketing exec from Infinitely 21 is not going well. I really love this scene. This chick is rudely condescending towards Liza and Kelsey. The deal they had was about selling books together, but Shelly says the deal was about the brand. Her brand is young, fun, and sexy, and the kiss of death for any youth brand is being embraced by an older generation. I love the way Liza stands up for herself. She’s not wrong when she says “we’re all pretending to be younger. We dye our hair, whiten our teeth, wear Spanx, etc. all to be 27 again. Millennial isn’t an age; it’s an attitude. If you can’t sell that, we’ll go somewhere else.”

An Invitation

I think Maggie is all over the board this season. She found a new woman who has now disappeared from our storyline. Maggie had an identity crisis when she didn’t feel desirable at a bar, and now we see her flirting with a man at an art gallery. These two have some very sexy flirting going on, and he asks to see her artwork, which leads them back to Maggie’s apartment. Once there, he is coming on strong, and Maggie lets him know she’s gay. He knows this, but he wanted to get to know her better. He thinks Maggie let him into her place because she’s curious and she kisses him.

Don’t Shoot

Liza wakes up to this man in their apartment and thinks she’s getting robbed. She’s shocked to learn Maggie spent the night with a man. Maggie assures her she’s not interested, but rather it seemed like a good idea to take a sample at the time. She’s not interested in doing it again.

Those Legs Though

Liza later receives a call from Shelly at Infinitely 21, re-instating their partnership. They now see Liza’s point and want to embrace “young” as an attitude as she does. Shelly asks Liza to be the face and legs of their spring clothing line. Liza hesitantly agrees, and the photoshoot is tomorrow.

Leave it to Lauren

Lauren brings Liza a “bow-flex for your face” and promises it will take ten years off her face. Liza is rushed out of the makeup trailer to the shoot, leaving Diana alone in the trailer. She becomes curious about this device. Charles walks into the trailer to see Diana using this device, and it’s absolutely hilarious. I died laughing. I first saw this device on a video on Facebook (linked here), you need to watch this then come right back!

Ok, Hilarious right? Also, so not relevant to our story, but I couldn’t resist the laugh.

At the photoshoot, Charles chats with Liza during a break, and the photographer ends up snapping a few shots of them talking together. We see the snapshots on the monitor, and clearly that they don’t particularly look in love or that great together.

And Quinn’s back

Liza is back in the makeup trailer as Quinn waltzes right back into our lives (insert groan here). In town as part of her campaign trail, Quinn stops by to torture us. The publishing world is upset, but outside of that, no one cares. She wants to amplify the story, to hear louder voices of praise for Liza. New York 1 is doing a series on corporate ageism and discrimination, and Quinn could use another prop to boost her campaign. Quinn wants Liza to join her in the interview.

A Peace Offering

Kelsey shows up at Zane’s apartment and is going to cook him a peace offering. Kelsey wants Zane to admit to being mad and agrees to let him ask her anything, and she’ll be honest. At the end of their discussion, Zane thinks they’re all insane and bad liars, but agrees they did what they had to do. He does, however, have one more question. “What did you really think when I said I love you?”

Kelsey says “you said you WERE in love with me, past tense.” She thinks they should tell each other the truth about how they really feel. She feels the say way; present tense, and they kiss! Zane even says the “L-word”.

Kelsey and Zane are as “will they/won’t they” as Liza and Charles have been all series. Are you #teamyes or #teamno for these two? I’m still undecided. Right now, I’m leaning towards YES!

Last Shot

Liza’s photoshoot continues at a bar later that night and Josh happens to show up. Shelly from Infinitely 21 is very interested in this Josh guy and wants to know all about who he is and how this happened between them. Josh is simply gushing over Liza; saying she was sexy and smart and he just wanted to keep talking to her. The photographer snaps photos of Liza and Josh laughing together.

New York 1

Liza meets the interviewer Pat Kiernan, and they are discussing her story in the break room. Liza mentioned Quinn was one of the first people to advise she tell the truth and also mentions Quinn didn’t know her that well at the time; this was before she was in investor.

During the taping of the interview, Quinn mentioned she was shocked when she read the article last week, but realized she needed to be honest about this right away. “I run my campaign the way I run my companies; with transparency and honesty.” Pat pushes Quinn about knowing about this before becoming an investor, and she denies it. Hmm, now Quinn is caught in a lie. What’s the damage if Quinn knew Liza’s age before becoming an investor? Either way, being caught in a lie on camera and denying it is definitely damaging to Quinn’s campaign. Also, why didn’t Liza get to say a word during all this?

Flip This

Maggie meets up the artist, Raphael, to tell him she finds him charming, talented, and handsome; but her preferences are fixed. He says let’s eat, drink and go back to my place. “You’ll change your mind. You all do.” As it turns out, he’s a flipper; meaning he gets women to change their sexual preferences. Maggie flips the dinner table and storms out.

Fire Her

Quin summons Kelsey to discuss what happened with New York 1. Quinn is upset about the negative media coverage this story will now get now she’s been caught in a lie and demands Kelsey fire Liza for putting this nail in her campaign coffin. Kelsey stands up to Quinn, saying I’m not firing her for your lie.

I can somewhat see Quinn’s point of view in this conversation. Liza gets a pass on her lies, but Quinn will be butchered for hers. Quinn’s blatant lie seems to be for no reason and unfortunately was caught on camera.

Kelsey is also correct in pointing out that she cannot run her company based on Quinn’s negative press. Quinn’s demand to fire Liza looks like it’s just payback for an unfortunate situation that happened to involve Liza. Quinn is always trying to steamroll people into getting what benefits her.

We’re Broke

Kelsey and Charles are discussing this run-in with Quinn and are hopeful things will blow over soon. Zane comes into the office to announce the check for Audrey Colbert’s manuscript bounced. Diana also enters to report she overheard employees saying their direct deposit didn’t go through. It looks like big bad Quinn pulled her financial support of Millennial. Now they’re broke as a joke.

Oh No

Charles and Liza are walking home together. Liza is upset this is all happening because of her. So now, Charles says he will meet with all the investors he spoke with previously. Charles optimistically says things can only go up from here. As they walk away, an ad pops up in the kiosk behind them with a picture of Josh leaning-in to Liza (from the photoshoot) with the tagline, “Millennial isn’t an age, it’s an attitude.”

Well This Is A Problem

We need a hail mary pass to get out of this mess. I don’t think we are going to get Quinn back on board nor do we want her back. We need to find some funding with a new investor. It looks like it’s up to Charles to save the day; however, I’m not sure how many more times Charles can remind us that he gave up everything for Liza. This girl sure causes some problems, but we love her anyway. I’m happy to see Kelsey and Zane back together, hopefully, this relationship will go smoothly, at least for a little bit. I’m sure this picture of Josh and Liza will cause some major waves, and it’ll be fun to watch.
