Timeless Cancelled Again!
Last year Timeless received their walking papers, but fans of the show wouldn’t have it. A frenzy developed and in a whirlwind of powerful messages to NBC – the decision was altered, and season 2 was born.
After a hugely popular and explosive two hour finale of season 2 a month ago – it was made public today that NBC has cancelled Timeless. Again. And this time, it’s probably for good. Apparently the delay in announcement was due to Sony working in the background to either save the show OR create a “movie” finale for the series. Another season is very unlikely, and unless the financial aspects of a movie make sense – and I’m not sure they do – Timeless has run it’s course.
Where did 2 million people go?
Season 1 averaged about 4.6 million live viewers per episode. This season? 2.5 million. Key demo numbers pretty much cut in half as well. WHERE DID THOSE PEOPLE GO? Social media is still rampant with Timeless tweets, posts, comments, memes, pictures, and more.
I’m not a network executive, but seeing a 45% drop in live viewers was probably all it took to make this decision again this year. One more time: Where did they go?
Can fans do the impossible again?
We’ve seen a lot of interesting and devastating TV decisions this past season. Could another network gobble it up? Would NBC brass change their collective minds again? I don’t think it’s likely or probable – but it doesn’t mean Timeless fans won’t try. No one likes to see a “Timeless cancelled!” headline. If I come across some strong renewal efforts by fans, I’ll update this article with that information.
