The Walking Dead Episode 9: Squeeze
When we last left our heroes, seven were trapped in a cave full of walkers, and Negan was making some new friends.
The show is back, and two major stories took place. One was the fate of the seven trapped in the cave, and the second was Negan getting to know his new friends. Let’s start with the seven in the cave.
The Cave
After running after Alpha, Carol gets Daryl, Aaron, Connie, Kelly, Jerry, Magna, and herself trapped in a cave full of walkers.
Well, Aaron did want to find the hoard, and they did.
Hopscotch
Daryl leads the group on a hazardous game of hopscotch across some rocks. One wrong move and they would’ve been walker food,
A Chat
After everyone successfully made it to a safer area, Daryl has a little chat with Carol.
He basically lets her know that she has to stop reacting and start thinking. He gets what’s driving her, but like he said: “we don’t fight for revenge, we fight for our future.” I thought Carol had a major breakthrough. The moment she said,” but she killed my son,” I knew she was in more pain than she let on. I still feel if she had stayed with Ezekiel and they didn’t blame each other, she wouldn’t be so brash.
Connie
My two favorite scenes of the episode involve Connie.
In the first one, Daryl tells Connie that he needs her to watch the group and make sure they don’t do anything stupid while he searches for a way out. As someone wishing they put those two together, it was a hopeful scene because it showed Daryl trusts her above the others, even Carol.
The second came when they were about to take the tunnel Daryl finds, and Carol freaks out due to her claustrophobia. That’s when Connie steps up and spells “U R OK” on Carol’s leg. This helps Carol relax and face the tunnel.
Getting Out
For fans of Jerry, myself included, there were two very heart-pounding moments. As they were exiting the tunnels, poor Jerry got stuck. With walkers behind him, he was almost a goner, but Daryl wouldn’t give up. Finally, when Jerry got free, they checked him over and found out he wasn’t bitten or scratched, so he made it out.
The second time I thought he was a goner was when he was holding up the platform for the others to get out. Again he was saved and managed to get out, but not everyone made it.
Carol
Oh, our dear Carol couldn’t help herself when they found a box of explosives, and she thought she could take out the hoard with it. Daryl went and got her and thought he stopped her in time, but no, she accidentally dropped the dynamite, causing an explosion.
Dead or Alive
This is where I started to freak out. Connie and Magna went back to try and save Carol and Daryl, but before they could get out of the cave, it collapsed.
No. Not my Connie. I just hope somehow she lived and will be reunited with her sister and Daryl.
Ties Are Broken
An obviously upset Daryl tries to dig them put with no prevail. Carol begs him to blame her for Connie and Magna getting stuck, but he wouldn’t. He didn’t say a word to her. He just walked away, saying he was going to find another way in.
Carol finally went too far. Daryl doesn’t trust her anymore. She went behind his back one too many times, and this time it got someone he really cared for possibly killed. Seeing Daryl so upset and visibly crying broke my heart. He loves Carol still, but he just can’t trust her, and that is killing his spirit.
Negan and His New Friends
A Spy Among Them
Alpha believes a spy is watching them. She sends Gamma to check the borders and see what she can see.
Playing The Game
While Alpha was using the latrine, Negan shows up. When she is done, he lets her know that the spy she might be looking for is in her own camp. She asks him who and he suggests it’s Gamma. She seems to not believe him, even pushing him into the latrine as she storms off. The nastiness of this episode doesn’t end there.
Beta
Alpha tells Beta about Negan’s thoughts and sends him to check on things since Gamma hasn’t checked in, telling both of them Negan is right. I am guessing about now Beta truly hates Negan more than before.
A Prize
Alpha takes Negan out in the woods, telling him to strip. He does, and when he turns around, Alpha has as well.
In a shout out to the comics, Negan asks her if this is a praying mantis situation and asks if afterward, is she going to bite his head off. In the comics, it’s Negan who takes Alphas head. I hope it’s the same in the show. She tells him it’s a “crass prize for crass man.” Then with her mask and socks still on, they proceed to have sex.
I personally didn’t need to see that. I mean, Negan looked good, but couldn’t she have taken off the mask? And wouldn’t that infect Negan kissing it?
Final Thoughts
I hope at least Connie makes it out alive. Honestly, it’s a shame we finally have a female villain, and the only way she thought to reward someone was with her body. Carol hopefully will learn from this experience and grow.
The Walking Dead airs on AMC Sundays at 9/8c.
