The Flash: O Come, All Ye Thankful

It’s a Thanksgiving in Central City and Barry’s looking to impress. Like every good super hero fan knows, our hero’s Thanksgiving can’t go right until things go wrong.

A Family affair

This episode was all about family, especially fathers and daughters.

Joss and Mark Marden

The family that kills together, stays together or something like that.

Joss Marden (played by Reina Hardesty)

Joss, the daughter of Mark Marden aka weather wizard (Liam McIntyre reprises his role as Mark) and she wants him out of jail.

After attacking the Flash and XS, she demands her father released to her from iron heights.

Don’t mess with the crazy

Team Flash decides to use a hologram of her father into possibly tricking her into relinquishing her weather staff (which is infused with dark matter) so they can capture her.

Crazy always finds a way

Things go sideways when Joss drops a car on who she thinks is her father and the hologram is destroyed, she vows to destroy the city if he isn’t brought to her so she can kill him.

An estranged feeling

Joss tells Flash that she wants to kill the deadbeat who up and left his family, immediately after Nora had told him that she didn’t want him leaving her again.

In the end

The Flash defeats Joss and she gets locked up in iron heights with her father. Guess like father, like daughter is in play here.

Orlin Dwyer and Grace Gibbons

We finally learn why Orlin aka Cicada wants to kill all metas.

A family torn apart

When Grace’s mother, Orlin’s sister is killed in a meta attack, Grace is turned over to her uncle.

From Bachelor to Father

Orlin has absolutely nothing to eat the morning after Grace came to live with him.

He was also on the phone trying to find a way to get rid of her.

She also learned some foul language from him and started calling other kids “rat bastards” like he was doing when his work called.

A Dollhouse helps

With help from his cousin that gave him his old fixer upper home, Orlin finally straightens out and the two bond over building a doll house together.

The Birth of Cicada

While at a carnival celebrating one year together, Orlin and Grace get hit by some of the fragments from DeVoes falling satellite.

While he is stabbed in the chest by a piece of the core, Grace is knocked to the ground and falls comatose.

Orlin sits with Grace listening to the news about the incident. Then and there he decides that all metas should pay for what happened to Grace.

Barry and Nora

When Barry dies and has to be brought back by Nora during their first fight with Joss, Nora finally releases some inner anger.

Nora lets Barry know that he should stop putting himself into danger so she keeps her father.

Barry tried to explain that the world needs The Flash making Nora even more upset. “I need my father” Nora exclaims while walking away.

Actions can be louder than words

When Barry and Nora go to stop Joss, Barry hesitates putting himself in danger again.

Nora looks at all the scared people also in the area and realizes what her dads been trying to tell her.

Taking a big step for herself and her dad, she tells him to do his job. Barry does just that and captures Joss and saves the city.

Meanwhile

Cisco and Caitlin, after a depressing discussion with Sherloque about them having nothing to be thankful for, decide to cancel Thanksgiving for themselves.

After Killer Frost drops by and ridicules the two men, they all decide to go to Thanksgiving at Barry’s.

Sherloque says that he is grateful for his new family and they all eat tThanksgiving dinner.

But

Barry and Iris don’t even get to have a good nights sleep. Sherloque calls them in and tells them they’ve figured out who Cicada is. Not much of a reveal for the audience but now the team can plan how to stop him.

Final thoughts

I stand by my feelings that no matter what, Cicada continues to be a boring villain. He is a run of the mill baddie who had his life destroyed and now he will destroy others.

It’s so wonderful to see Iris and Nora bonding the way they are. I hope it continues.

I also really enjoyed seeing Nora angry at Barry. She also admitted that she put a lot of anger towards her dad on her mom finally relinquishing some of the guilt from Iris.

Next week is The Flash’s 100th episode and I can’t wait to see what happens. Old acquaintances and enemies are back and we are promised an extra adorable

West-Allen scene.

Don’t miss the 100th episode of The Flash and all new episode’s at 9/8c on The CW.
