Episode 5 of The Crossing aired April 30th, on ABC.
A very busy night on The Crossing! Did you keep up with all of it?
2008: The First Arrival
Through a series of flashbacks, we got to see the first migration who came through ten years before to stop APEX. Among them was Lindauer and Paul’s wife (haven’t caught her name yet, so I will just refer to her as “evil redhead”.) Apparently, their plan was to kill 27 individuals who were responsible for APEX. And they do, they go out and shoot these people down one by one, and then they get together and celebrate, thinking their work is done and they’ve saved humanity. But when the second migration comes through ten years later, Lindauer gets the call from Agent Ren, and the group realizes their plan didn’t work, they didn’t “change the timeline” after all and APEX is still around to unleash Mantle’s Disease. Lindauer and the group (let’s call them “Firsties”) discuss what to do now. They decide that they need a new plan—and Evil Redhead comes up with one: they’re going to obliterate anyone who carries the marker for APEX. Not sure what that marker is (apparently only certain people could have the APEX upgrade?), but whatever it is, Lindauer is shocked at the plan because it’s going to involve killing a lot of people. I’m thinking Lindauer is not okay with this, and he’s gonna be a weak link in the new plan.
Marshall
So we’ve all been wondering what Marshall has to do with all this—well, that first migration didn’t come in the water, they just appeared out of thin air, and right into the path of a car being driven by Marshall’s dad. Marshall was a boy at that time, in the back seat, and his mom was in the passenger seat. His dad swerved to avoid hitting the people, and crashed the car, killing his wife. Marshall had evidently blocked this memory of the group of people in the road, but in a dream it all comes back to him now. He remembers the group, and later, when Jude and Nestor talk to him about what he remembers, he identifies a photo of the black ops guy (the one that Reece killed) as one of them.
Sophie & Reece
So maybe I was wrong about Sophie. I thought she was up to no good. But, as promised, she takes Reece to a lab where they extract some of Reece’s bone marrow to take back to Leah. While there, Sophie asks Reece about how she came to be Leah’s mother, and tells her that she was abandoned herself as a baby. Later, Reece tells Sophie that she can “hear” her heart, that her heart doesn’t beat normal, and that’s why her mom left her.
Sophie makes it back to Leah with the treatment, and it works! Leah is awake and the rash is going away. And now …. Sophie wonders what else Reece’s marrow can heal? I think she’s gonna inject herself and try to heal her own heart. Will she now become an APEX? Not sure, Leah didn’t, so maybe it wouldn’t affect Sophie that way either. Unless … maybe Sophie carries the marker?
More Mysteries & Unanswered Questions
- Agent Ren—where is she? You remember that in last week’s episode, Evil Redhead shot Agent Ren in the back. Well, we never did see a body this week. So is she still alive somewhere? Jude is looking for her, he knows something is up and, along with Nestor and Marshall, he’s starting to put it all together. Still kind of hoping Ren is alive.
- There’s another young girl in the refugee camp who is sick, not with the Mantles disease, but as a result of coming through the water. And this girl has a brand. Some kind of a marker. APEX? Could be.
The show gets better and better each week. I only hope the slow start the first few episodes didn’t sabotage the series. It did take it a little while to get going, but it’s kind of made up for it the past two episodes.
What’s your thoughts on episode 5? Why do you think the first migration’s plan didn’t work? Was it because Lindauer had a bit of a conscience and let one of the 27 slip through, or is it because Sophie is gonna use Reece’s marrow and become an APEX? Or maybe even just because the first migration didn’t know about Reece? What do we know now? Are you sure? Are you sure about anything on The Crossing?
The Crossing returns May 7th, 10/9 C, on ABC.
