The Baker and the Beauty cast gives fans a taste of their new series at SCAD aTVfest in Atlanta.
Fans delighted in getting a sneak peak of ABC’s The Baker and the Beauty pilot at SCAD aTVfest. Executive Producer Dean Georgaris was on hand with the cast to talk about the show.
Who to expect
The parents: Rafael Garcia is the father of “the baker” and portrayed by Carlos G贸mez. G贸mez was excited to learn that his character was Cuban like himself. Lisa Vidal plays Mari Garcia, the feisty wife and mother of the Garcias.
The siblings: Our “baker” is son Daniel Garcia portrayed by Victor Rasuk. Daniel is primed to follow in his father’s footsteps as manager of the family bakery. Brother Mateo Garcia has his sights set on a music career as a DJ. Wait until you see his DJ name! You can also look forward to some vocals and laughs from actor Charlie Del Rio who plays Mateo. Rounding out the Garcia kids is youngest sibling Natalie played by Belissa Escobedo. Natalie is very smart and quick-witted, but you may find she is not as comfortable talking about her feelings.
The girlfriend: Daniel has long been dating Vanessa who is portrayed by Michelle Veintimilla. You know when someone is described as “a little extra”? That is Vanessa. She knows what she wants and goes after it.
The “beauty”: Nathalie Kelley plays Noa Hamilton, “the beauty” that stumbles upon Daniel one night in Miami. Noa is world renowned for her beauty and fashion. Everyone knows her as a star personality, but there is much more to Noa then her trendsetting.
The assistant: Lewis is a faithful assistant to Noa, trying to keep her happy but protected as well. Dan Bucatinsky plays Lewis with delightful flair and a dry wit.

What to expect
When asked by EP Dean Georgaris what I thought of the pilot, the word “joyful” came to mind.
Don’t get me wrong. Everything is not perfect in the Garcia family or for Noa Hamilton, but there are strong family bonds and dancing and music. A Miami night shines beautifully with lights sprinkled everywhere and glimpses of the water. Noa’s fashion is indeed dazzling as well.
The care that Lewis has for Noa and the love the Garcias have for Daniel are both welcome sights. There is humor, mayhem, wonder and heartfelt emotion among the characters and their stories.
Of course, we cannot forget the bread, the pastries and confections that abound!
Notes from the panel:
- In regard to those pastries, Nathalie revealed that she eats gluten-free, which has limited her taste-testing on set. On the hand, Charlie joked about being a method actor and eating a lot from the bakery.
- Lisa and Carlos talked about how happy they are to be representing the Latino community in a positive light. They commented how so often Latino actors are offered roles as drug dealers and prostitutes that perpetuate stereotypes. The actors are thrilled to be playing a regular family that just happens to be Latino.
- We learned that the writers room has a large Latino representation and that approximately 90% of the crew is Puerto Rican.
The Baker and the Beauty arrives to ABC on April 13th at 10/9c. Mark your calendars to meet the Garcias, Noa, Lewis and Vanessa!
