Emergence Episode 12
Only one episode left in the first season of this sci-fi drama – And Emergence episode 12 “Killshot pt. 1” had quite a few interesting events. Let’s go over some of them:
Warning: SPOILERS!
Helen has a Mom?
We meet Loretta – a current/former government “employee” who created Helen… We learn Helen is basically AI Patient Zero, and this doesn’t exactly bode well. Interestingly, Loretta has a way to kill Helen – but can’t do it herself? This doesn’t quite make sense, but we’ll get to this again in a moment.
Ugh, The Kiss.
Brooks. Jo. In the backroom of the police station.
DAMN IT.
I saw a lot of positive reactions to this on social media – was I the only one that was rooting for Alex in the love department? (Side note: I still believe Brooks is potentially AI.)
Government Knows
We learn, from Loretta, that the government is more than well aware of the AI stuff. The Dept. of Justice comes in because of her to save Brooks and his job. We even learned how the AI came about: an intercepted message years ago.
But, if they know – and they understand the ramifications of rogue AI – why haven’t they done something before now? They obviously knew about Piper – and her “error within her code” abilities – why sit back and let it happen?
Why hasn’t anyone melted?
We haven’t seen anyone in a melted death scene in a while… Is that what the protein enzyme does inside of the device that is capable of killing Helen? Why haven’t we seen more melted people? We started off strong with that in the season, but I admit, I kinda miss it.
Begin Upload
Apparently the AI’s are supposed to gain and gather information… But we don’t know exactly why or what for yet. Benny begins to spill a few secrets and once these data uploads are complete – the AI population loses all their memories (and programming?) – but why? They’re no longer needed as an army of automated soldiers? And why in the heck do they float when this upload process is working?
Emily
She is one scary lady. Slicing Helen’s throat, taking advantage of Justin with ease. I’ve really underestimated her as a crazed mama-wannabe – but she’s one smart cookie – and a dangerous one at that.
Jo stole a device!
What was that “thing” she took while trying to escape Helen? What does it do? It sure seems like it’s alive somehow – is it the device where AI are born? Is it the catalyst to making the upload “connect”?
Questions
Where does the upload go?
Who is behind all this madness?
Was it really a transmission from a foreign country that was intercepted regarding creating the AI?
Has Benny really changed? Can he be trusted?
What did Jo really give Loretta?
What the heck is going to happen next week?
There’s certainly a lot of questions – here’s to hoping we get answers to it all next week!
