The Lincoln Lawyer review: Season 2 part 2 shifts into high gear

Take a moment to share:

The pace accelerates in The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 part 2.

The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 episodes 6 through 10 arrive on Netflix August 3rd. Get ready for things to move fast. At the end of part 1, we are ready to go to trial. Unfortunately, Mickey is not so ready. We last see him lying on the ground in the parking garage beaten severely by 2 mystery men. A preview for part 2 shows Izzy finding Mickey and doctors wheeling him through the hospital.

So, what can you expect?

More family

Of course, Mickey’s hospital stay draws the attention of Maggie and Hayley who are on hand to help him recuperate. But the introduction of Mickey’s mother, ‘Mama Elena’, is truly delightful. We gain new insights about Mickey as we see him interact with Elena (Angélica María). In fact, the circumstance under which Elena arrives to town provides new information about Mickey as well.

Think drama queen with a dollop of sugar on top. Mickey’s mom is indeed over the top in many ways, but she is also energetic, optimistic (most of the time), and so proud of her son. Watch for an amusing development between Izzy and Elena. And as delightful as she is, Elena still manages to take a few digs at Maggie’s expense.

More doubts

The first half of season 2 has many of us torn about our thoughts on Lisa Trammell. Did she do it? Even as evidence stacks up against her in part one, Mickey still seems entranced by her. And she does offer all of that good food. Maybe she was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Perhaps she has been framed as Mickey suggested in the preliminary hearing.

Your thoughts about her will probably continue to vacillate, making the trial all the more intriguing. Lana Parrilla has a brilliant way of portraying Lisa with just enough mystery to keep us guessing.

More twists

The Lincoln Lawyer (both the series and the attorney) has a way of surprising us. A trial has so many moving targets with the defense and prosecution battling it out for those “mic drop” moments. YaYa DaCosta continues to impress with her portrayal of laser-focused prosecutor Andrea Freeman. But in part 2, we also get to see the veil drop just a little here and there.

It’s not over until it’s over. This season of The Lincoln Lawyer has so many different elements to the story. I predict that you will stay engrossed until the credits roll.

More fun

Elliott Gould continues to shine as Mickey’s mentor and surrogate father figure, ‘Legal’ Siegel. The sounding board he provides for Mickey serves the story in multiple ways. For sure, his dialogue brings additional clarification to some of Mickey’s tactics, helping us amateurs gain a better understanding of the strategies employed. But Legal also brings a lightness to the story in contrast to the intensity of the tasks before Mickey. It is fun to watch retired Legal get excited as he dips his toes back into the legal world here and there.

Let us not forget the fun dynamic well-established between Lorna and Cisco, a pairing that naturally brings humor to the story. Watch for both fun and heartwarming moments with these two. We also get to enjoy more pairing of Izzy with Lorna both of whom are spunky in their own right. Their friendship grows in season 2 making Haller & Associates feel very much like a family.
