“I chose you.”
Malcolm realizes this might not be a victim of Martin’s, but instead may be a former patient that died. Martin only remembers one woman who died in surgery, and that was Amelia Wheaton. Everything floods back to him… the first victim is Dr. Jack Weaver, and the woman in the picture is as Kathy Paul, his nurse. Amelia’s son wants revenge! Jessica arrives, and everyone is a bit confused by it. Malcolm soon realizes she’s lying by her facial tells.
When he discovers that she has to kill her ex-husband, he tries to reason with her. How will the murderer know that she killed him? Jessica doesn’t care. Martin tries to tell them that he is a good person (HA!!) and that he has saved people. Angry, Malcolm tells his mother that Martin tried to kill him as a child. He finally confirms this as true, and Jessica is angry!
Flashback
At the start of the episode, we see Malcolm and Martin in 2007 talking about murder modalities and improvised killings. It seems strange at the time but soon finds its place in the episode. Malcolm asks how Martin would kill him, and of course, he gives a chilling answer but assures Malcolm he could never do so. Malcolm does not say the same. However, the modalities and improvision seems important, does it not?
Flash forward to the present, Martin mentions an unfamiliar name to his son, and there’s a weird moment. Should I know this name as a viewer? I try and recall who this might be, but I cannot remember them. I’m so into trying to figure it out that Malcolm stabbing his father makes my jaw drop! Did he really just do that? Martin has taken up ceramics (as we also see throughout the episode), and, ironically, the tool used is a ceramic pick… which Martin requests from David, the guard at the start (and is denied).
All in all, this all seems very strange. Martin is rushed into surgery, while Malcolm watches above. He notices a strange man leaving mid-surgery, and the danger magnet gives chase to him. It is Cory Wheaton, our killer dressed as a nurse! He is quickly caught by JT and tells the team that the Whitly’s do not deserve happiness, and their sudden thrust into the spotlight enraged him enough to kill. Thankfully, they save the nurse, and all is … well?

Not Quite
Malcolm is watching over his father’s surgery again, and is thrust into another flashback… this time, the mystery name from earlier returns! AHA! So, apparently, it has to do with improv murder and a stabbing to the heart. Ironic? Nope. No way. It would seem that Martin made it clear to Malcolm he wanted him to stab him. But did he? Did he trust that Malcolm would be able to stab him in just the right spot? Did he think that his son would actually be able to hurt his father, despite everything? It is hard to say.
My other thought is this: everything in this episode seems connected. It can’t be a coincidence that when Martin took up ceramics, suddenly a murderer wants him dead by the tool used in the craft. Did Martin have a hand in this? Or was our fake nurse, truly murderer, planting seeds for longer than we realized? Martin Whitly is a devious man, and I don’t put anything past him. However, I can’t seem to figure out how it all came together.
Overall, I think I hate that Malcolm stabbed his father. In the long run, it will torture him and make him feel crazier. If he is able to hurt him, does that mean he can do more? I’m sure it’s something he considered when that pick went into his body.
And now, Jessica is taking Malcolm’s heat for the crime, claiming she stabbed him. Will he let her? And if he doesn’t… does he get away with it again, if Martin lives? Gil seems more than suspicious, and I doubt the secret stays for long.
