NOS4A2 Season 2 Episode 3: The Night Road
Home is where we feel safe and that’s exactly were Vic goes to hideaway.
Chris McQueen: The Lake House
Vic starts off at her dad’s place.
I loved seeing Ebon Aka Chris again and hearing him call Vic “Brat” made it feel like we came home with Vic.
He’s doing well, he is sober and has his own cabin. He also doesn’t allow alcohol in the cabin.
After sleeping for a day in a half, and after finding out that her dad had removed her alcohol vials, Vic decides her mother’s place is better suited for her. I like how they’re showing that Vic is now in the place her dad and mom were the last season.
Linda McQueen
Linda is still living in her old home but is dating and happy. Everything is good until Linda finds a bottle of alcohol in Vic’s room and discovers her sneaking in really late.
In one of the best speeches given in this show Linda says:
“I never won a gold medal for parenting, either. I think of all the things I screwed up… I mean, I never actually burned down my own house. When you are young, you do not understand how much a kid is gonna take from you. You give him everything you’ve got and more than you have.”
When Vic replies, “What if I don’t know how to love him like that?” Linda has a response. She replies with great motherly advice, “You don’t have to know how, Vicki. You just have to stay, that’s all love is. You stay. Even though nobody rewards you for it, and you always like you are screwing up and a lot of time you are. A mother stays. You figure out the rest.”
Bravo to the writers, and to Virginia Kull for delivering it like no one else could.
Maggie’s Place
I loved their reunion, it was a long time coming. Though I don’t think Tabitha was quite as happy and neither Lou nor Wayne, after she chooses to go after Charlie instead of being at the airport. But that’s a bridge she has to fix.
But why did Lou and Wayne fly out to hide at Maggie’s?
That would have to do with good ole…
Charlie Manx
After finding out Wayne has the same wild take off and go spirit as his mom, Wayne is shooting hoops when who else but Bing pulls up. Bing tells Lou he needs his Harley fixed. While they are talking in Lou’s office Wayne hears a song and follows it.
Wayne asks Charlie if he’s better since when he saw him before he was bleeding and Charlie is happy that Wayne is so thoughtful.
Wayne takes a candy cane Charlie offers him but when he asks Wayne to get in the car, he asks Charlie for the passcode. When Charlie replies there are no passwords in Christmasland, Wayne runs off as his parents taught him to do.
Wayne is a smart, resourceful kid.
But Lou is also resourceful. Lou notices the gas tank in Bing’s truck and finds an opportunity to find Wayne, and when he does they hide from Charlie and Bing.
The Night Road
After trying to kidnap Wayne, Charlie goes and sees his old friend Abe. He tells him that he wants to talk to the “HourGlass man”. After Abe agrees since he owes Charlie a favor, Charlie gets a call from Millie.
She asks him about the house and he says only bad kids sneak out of Christmasland. I think by the end we are going to have a father/daughter showdown.
Vic and The Night Road
Vic goes to where Charlie is to try and burn the Wraith again and kill Charlie for trying to get Wayne.
When she asks where they are, Charlie says mockingly, “We’re on the Night Road… an Inscape formed by the collective unconscious of a community of people just like us. Access requires a certain darkness of the soul. What darkness has been lurking within you since last we met? Teen pregnancy? Child born out of wedlock? His father burned to death along with the innocent Bradley all as a consequence of your sins, lust, anger, pride, abandonment.”
This makes Vic angry and she tries to destroy the Wraith but misses and heads back to her moms, defeated.
The last piece of the puzzle is Charlie’s “sugarplum.”
Millie
After chasing after her dad’s car because she didn’t want him to leave, Millie finds a house that looks like her old one. There she found her mom’s clothes as well as her mom.
What the heck is Charlie up to?? Well, Millie doesn’t really care if she makes the naughty list, after talking to her dad she brings a head of a deer to the door, and when the woman comes out she confirms who she is by whispering “Millie”.
The writers have successfully added another crazy aspect to the show.
Is she a ghost? Is she a demon-like Millie? I can’t wait for the answers.
The Hourglass Man
The last few minutes show a really nicely dressed man getting ready when his phone rings. When he answers he tells Abe that he wants no more of his clients but accepts when he says it’s Charlie. The only other thing we see of him is that he’s twirling a small hourglass in his fingers. What does Charlie want from him and what is his power going to turn out to be?
In Conclusion
This episode threw a lot at us and asked more questions than actually answering them.
It was great to see Vic’s parents again and I hope they continue to show up.
