Killjoys Episode 9

Sometimes a show makes you laugh, makes you smile, and sometimes even cry. Tonight’s episode of Killjoys did all three, but mostly left us heartbroken and confused. Let’s find out why.

Delle Seyah returns

The episode starts with Delle Seyah on Arken trying to decipher Khylen’s work on the green to find Aneela.

Unwanted visitors

Her computer tells her that a ship has landed in the docking area pissing off Delle Seyah. She tries to find out any info but the cameras have been turned off. The computer counts down until the intruders arrive.

Delle Seyah grabs her gun and as soon as the blast door opens, a backpack flies in.

Mommy’s weekend

Johnny, D’avin and Dutch walk in and tell Delle Seyah that it’s her weekend. I thought this was a clever way to do things.

After D’avin explains that Jaq would be safer with her, D’avin and Dutch leave to get Jaq ready.

A word from Johnny

As Johnny is leaving he tells Delle Seyah he dreamt of the look of pain she had on her face thinking about Aneela because of what she did to Pawter.

He then says that they will do everything in their power to bring her home.

It was nice to see Johnny let his anger towards Delle Seyah go. I think it’s what Pawter would’ve wanted.

Time to say goodbye

Dutch tells Jaq to be kind to his dad because he’s tough on the outside and a marshmallow on the inside.

She also tells Jaq to continue to train with Delle Seyah as his teacher because not all lessons involve weapons.

When Delle Seyah, who respects his wishes to be called Jaq, comes to get him, Jaq says goodbye to Dutch and Johnny.

First father/son goodbye

Going to D’avin, Jaq asks him not to forget him. D’avin replies never trying not to cry. He then goes on his way after giving D’avin a big hug..

I hope we get to see some of the mother/son bonding between Jaq and Delle Seyah because it’s sure to be quite interesting.

Back to the Armada

Team Awesome-force heads back to the armada where they start plotting to get the kids out.

Turin and Weej

The first time in this episode we see these two is when “Team AwesomeForce” gets there. And Turin tells them the plan, and about Weej leading the way.

Following another’s lead

Dutch doesn’t agree with Weej leading because he is Hullen and Dutch doesn’t do well taking orders – which makes Turin angry.

Turin and Dutch have a private meeting about following orders and that he trusts in his people.

Not a happy ending

As the teams take off, Turin calls Weej his man, and Weej says he’s Turin’s man. But right after he says that, Weej’s ship explodes against an invisible barrier surrounding the RAC.

Before Weej died, a change had come over Turin, a more human and caring side.

Though when Weej died, there was a pain on Turin’s face and in his body language that had never been apparent in all four of the seasons.

Meanwhile…

Zeph and Pip

The arrival of “Team Awesomeforce” back on the Armada doesn’t amuse Pip. He is scared of D’avin head butting him again and leaves Zeph to talk to Dutch alone.

Zeph learns from Dutch that’s she’s been getting markings on her body as a message from Aneela.

Trusting in Zeph, Dutch gives her data to extract on the green. Zeph realizes it’s Scarback symbols.

Eulogy

Zeph and Pip head to Eulogy to talk to the former Scarback Fairuza, to find out what the symbols mean.

They find out the one symbol means Evolve, one means Elixir and the last means to Disappear. But only the Scarback who made the symbol knows the true meaning.

Needing to do some thinking, Zeph and Pip rent a room. While their having sex, Zeph tries to figure it out but can’t.

Let’s learn about Zeph

When their done, we find out Zeph is from a kind of Mormon settlement on Leif.

She compares the treatment of her sisters to that of milking cows and that’s why she has problems being in a relationship.

She then tells pip if he can’t accept that, he can’t accept her. He says he can but maybe they can meet in the middle. And she agrees to that.

Back on the armada ship

Dutch and D’avin finally tell Johnny about the marking which makes him angry.

Trying not to blow completely up, Johnny tells them he doesn’t mind them keeping their sex stuff a secret but not things like this.

Leave it to Johnny and Lucy

Johnny and Lucy discover that a crazy scientist figured out how someone could tap into their own genome.

Getting looks of confusion, Johnny explains that he could link with the force field long enough for them to go in and save the children and get out before he dies.

D’avin and Dutch undercover

Dutch and D’avin go undercover on Leif in a hippy camp to get the machine for Johnny.

While there, Dutch connects to Aneela and figures out what Aneela wants her to do.

Meanwhile…

While Dutch and D’avin are on their undercover mission to get the machine, Johnny confides in Lucy that he doesn’t know where he belongs with D’avin and Dutch.

He says that he wouldn’t mind having someone by his side and Lucy says she had him. Johnny agrees and tells Lucy it’s forever.

Round 2

The teams are going in for round two of trying to get on the Rac, and Pip decides to go with them. He tells Zeph they don’t have to embrace but Zeph kisses him goodbye.

That is never a good sign on a show…

Back on the RAC

When they get everything they need done on the RAC, they realize to save everyone they need to blow the ship up.

And the only way is through a manual override, meaning the person doing it had to go down with the ship.

Hero

Pip says he will do it since he’s dying anyway. He knows that if Zeph tried to save him and couldn’t she would never forgive herself but, if he died saving people she could move past it.

After Johnny tells Zeph about it back on the RAC, she contacts him and tries to talk him out of it. But he tells her he can’t stand the thought of her being blown up by the ship. Zeph tries to tell him she loves him, but can’t.

Pip tells her it’s alright, and that he knows. And right before the ship blows, he tells her they’ll meet in the middle.

This was a heartbreaking scene. Watching Pip give up his life, and watching Zeph have to lose the man who was starting to make her learn to love again. They both were saving each other. But sadly Pip died in the process.

Zeph is in pain

When everyone returns, Zeph gives all the info back to Dutch for Johnny to figure out because she was done, and as she leaves she says that Dutch was supposed to bring him home.

As unfair as that was to Dutch, Zeph needed to share her feelings. Hopefully the two girls can learn to play nice and work together if need be to stop the lady.

Pree and Gared

We didn’t see much of them in this episode. On the Armada all we saw of them was them standing around getting their orders about saving the kids.

The RAC

Again they aren’t shown through much of the takeover accept saving the kids; who really loved and trusted Gared. They make it safely off the RAC and go back to Westerly. This is the last we see of them in this episode.

It was sad not seeing them in much of this episode. But it was nice watching them work together.

Back on Westerley

Team Awesome-force is having a drink in the Royale when Dutch tells the boys she figured out what Aneela was telling her. Dutch starts to seize and collapses to the floor and when Johnny checks her canteen which is full of the green.

When Dutch comes to, its no longer Dutch, but Aneela and Dutch awakens in the green and tells the lady she’s coming.

In the end

This episode played with our hearts and our minds.

With Pree and Gared, it was nice to see a softer side of both of them.

We are still left wondering though what made Gared lose track of all that time he was captured on the RAC.

Connections were the key

There was definitely a connection between Weej and Turin. I wish like with Zeph and Pip we would have gotten to see those two get close.

Two bondings that ended to quickly.

This all builds up to the season finale

Along with finding out Aneela’s grand plan, Hopefully we will also find out what happened to Gared on the RAC And hopefully it doesn’t end tragically for him like it did for Weej and Pip.

The season finale of Killjoys airs next Friday at 10/9c on SyFy
