Phillip Lewitski

Some actors are inspired… some inspire others… Phillip Lewitski is both and I had the chance to ask him a few questions, and get to know him a little better!

Supernatural. Vikings. Utopia Falls.

These are quality television shows and Phillip has been a part of all of them. Currently, he’s starring as “Apollo” on the unique original, Utopia Falls, on Hulu. You’ve probably never seen a show that is both dystopian in nature and a musical… But Hulu’s done it – and if you haven’t checked it out yet, you definitely should.

I needed to learn more about Phillip’s role on the show and find out more about him as a person… I went with a handful of “serious” questions, and then threw in a few fun ones as well. A special thanks to Phillip Lewitski for taking the time!

Utopia Falls is basically a dystopian musical – I believe a first in television – Describe what it’s been like for you to be part of something new and fun like this.

It was an incredible experience. I remember when I first read the breakdown of the show I was so intrigued by the concept and had never heard of anything even remotely similar to it before. It was so amazing to be able to combine my passion for music and acting and put that on screen. Because it is such a unique show and the creators were trying things no one has done before they were very detail-oriented.

I realized this right away at the first table read. They had a vision and they wanted to make sure they got it right. The amazing part was they were also so open to some of the ideas that the cast might have. On the first day, one of the executive producers told us that his door is always open if we had any questions, concerns, or ideas for our character or the script.

What similarities do you have with your character, Apollo?

Apollo and I are very similar in a lot of ways. This is what made me fall in love with him so quickly. His morals and values are very much in alignment with mine. He holds his family and friends in the highest regard and he is extremely passionate about the things he loves. He becomes very obsessed with what he believes in almost to a fault. Music is a huge part of who he is. I grew up around music and instruments and have played my whole life. He perseveres through all of life’s trials and tribulations. I like to think I try to do the same.

You’re Canadian – but have a French, Ukrainian, and Mohawk ancestry… That’s one heck of a combination… How do these help to define you?

My cultural background is everything to me and I take much pride in my ancestors and how they have helped shape me into the person I am. I remember when I was a kid I was so fascinated by my family’s history and past. Thankfully I had family members that were very informed and were able to answer all the questions I had.

I think that everyone’s cultural background represents a huge part of who they are. I try to honor my ancestors by practicing traditions and implementing as much as I can into my own life. Culture is such a fascinating thing that’s so unique to every individual. I love learning about all different kinds of cultures and beliefs.

You seem to be someone that likes/hopes to inspire others… What inspires you?

There are many inspirational people in my life but my great grandmother has always pushed me to be a better person. She was a huge part of my life when I was younger and inspired me daily. She gave me the lens I perceive life through. I will never be able to impact anyone as she impacted me. I hope that I can pass down some of the wisdom and lessons she taught me.

You’ve had quite a bit of success… landing roles on shows like Supernatural, Vikings, and Utopia Falls – and even published a book at 19 years old! What are you most proud of?

I am just so happy and grateful for what life has presented me with. I work very hard at the things I do but without the guidance, I have been given nothing would be possible. I have incredible people in my life who always push me to be the best version of myself. If I was to pick something I am proud of it’s the ability to call these people my family, friends, and work partners.

And finally, here’s 5 quick “fun” questions for fans to learn more about Phillip:

Do you prefer bowling or miniature golf?

Bowling all the way!

Sunset or Sunrise?

Sunset!

Does pineapple belong on pizza?

Yes absolutely!

Favorite dessert?

Ice cream cake!

What’s the 4th item on your bucket list?

Go to the Bay of Islands in New Zealand and spend a month with the natives of the land.
