Younger Season 6 Episode 10

Last week we left Millennial without funding as the villainous Quinn has removed herself as an investor. Funding is a huge issue that Charles and Kelsey will need to resolve immediately. Let’s hope they can pull it off.

What the?!

Charles is traveling to Chicago with Kelsey to pitch to the investors of the Jacobs group. Liza is once again feeling guilty for putting everyone in this position. Charles assures her everything will be fine. I think we are all getting annoyed with Liza apologizing so much, but I’m sure I’d be doing the same if it were me.

As Liza walks to work, she passes several of the Infinitely 21 ads featuring her and Josh, but she misses seeing them. She must be blind because these things are enormous. I’m wondering what kind of money Infinitely 21 is spending because the sheer size of these monstrosities is obnoxious. Regardless, here’s Liza and Josh, looking quite cozy and all in love. She’s shocked when she sees it.

Use Your Assets

Kelsey and Zane are an item now and waking up in the same apartment. I think this relationship is a good thing; however, I’m still skeptical they will last the long haul. Fingers crossed. Zane wishes her luck on her investment pitch and jokes he uses every “asset” he has to get ahead and she should too.

Are You Serious?

We haven’t seen much from Josh, Clair, and baby Gemma lately so I’m glad they’re back this episode. The bad news is, Claire is considering a promotion at Google that would move her and the baby to Los Angeles. Claire says she doesn’t want to separate Josh and Gemma, but they need the money for the baby. Josh is dumbfounded and is also shocked when he turns around to see the Infinitely 21 ad for the first time.

Sorry Chicka

Lauren and Diana are planning a trip to Kleinfelds when Liza interrupts to question Lauren about the Infinitely 21 ad. Lauren doesn’t offer Liza much except for a “what do you want me to do?”

At Kleinfeld’s, Diana and Lauren are looking at wedding dresses. Lauren left a voicemail for Shelly at Infinitely 21 explaining asking them to swap out the photos. The bad news is, Shelly calls back to say the ad is doing so well that they’re going national with it. Liza immediately leaves to fly to Chicago.

Go Big!

In the meantime, Diana and Liza are looking through the dresses and comment, these gorgeous dresses are wasted in your 20’s; when no one really knows what they want. It seems the bigger celebration should come later in life when we “finally get it right.” It looks like Diana agrees and will choose a fabulous dress for her big day.

The Big Meeting

Kelsey and Charles prep for their meeting with the Jacobs group, which is made up of all men who have made their fortune in specialty metals. They’ve never invested in anything like publishing, and they’re going to need some reassurance.

Charles informs Kelsey these men are the only option for saving Millennial. There are no other potential investors lined up. In the meeting, the men explain they are not accustomed to the kind of change that happens within a publishing company and question how Millennial will protect its investment. Kelsey explains Millinneal embraces change; recently hiring a social media strategist because people expect access and transparency. She posts to her Instagram stories every day because accessibility and openness build trust. With that trust established, they will have more success launching new authors, and that translates to more business.

It’s Literally A Sign

Josh confides in Maggie about Claire’s job opportunity. She advises him to get a lawyer and fight for custody. Josh is questioning if he should. He says he fights to keep people in his life, but now he’s not sure it’s the best thing to do. Just because you love someone, doesn’t mean they stick around. There’s literally signs all over New York reminding him of this fact. Maggie thinks all the signs indicate is he should take advantage of the campaign’s success and stake his claim in it. Maybe he can keep Claire and Gemma in New York.

We Got The Money

Kelsey and Charles are celebrating landing the investors’ support when Liza shows up. Charles is pleasantly surprised, but Kelsey knows something is up. She encourages Liza to celebrate with them and not ruin their moment by discussing the Josh pic.

Show Me The Money

As Kelsey heads to bed, she takes a sexy snap of her “assets” saying, “Guess who got the money, honey.” Only instead of sending it to Zane, she posts to her Instagram stories as she crashes into the bed. By morning, she has tons of DM’s and comments on her story! As Lauren put it, “KELSEY LORRAINE”!!! OMG, this is cringe-worthy.

I’m a Meme

In the morning, Charles is reading the paper with Liza’s ad on the back. Liza grabs the paper from him and begins to explain the situation as she shows him the ad. Just then, Kelsey interrupts to tell them about the Instagram mishap. Kelsey is panicking, rightly so, but Charles is hopeful the investors won’t be affected by this. They didn’t cancel the meeting, so this is a good sign. I can’t imagine how awkward and embarrassed I would feel walking into this meeting. Again, cringe-worthy for Kelsey.

Inkburg Midtown

Josh meets with Shelly from Infinitely 21 to pitch a “retail-tainment” experience with Inkburg. He wants to set up a popup shop in the store window to bring the customers an exclusive experience. He will offer a limited selection of exclusive tattoos, only available at Infinitely 21. Shelly loves the idea and insists on hugging Josh.

I like all these characters throughout the show that the audience loves to hate. Shelly is definitely one of them for me. She is so “ew” a-la Jimmy Fallon style.

We Want Charles

In the meeting with the Jacobs group, Kelsey explains the issue with the Instagram story. The investors are understanding but also feel uncomfortable. They still want to invest but want Charles back in the role of publisher. Charles tries to protest, but Kelsey says she understands and agrees to step down, stating, “this is the right move for Millennial.” I feel so bad for Kelsey. She’s risen to the position of the publisher only to suffer a significant fallout for this one tiny mistake. She’s trying to do what’s right for Millennial, but this sucks. Especially after she stood up to Quinn through all of her crazy demands.

Just a photo

Back to Charles and Liza for a second. Liza is explaining to Charles that the photo is just an ad to sell clothes. However, like Charles says, if it’s just an ad, why did it make her get on a plane. If she wasn’t feeling some attachment or guilt, or some lingering question; she wouldn’t be worried about Charles’ reaction, right?

Disappointed

Poor Kelsey is disappointed, understandably. She had it all, and now it’s gone again. If I remember correctly, there was a manuscript earlier in the seasons about women being appointed heads of companies, only to be scapegoats for any future failures. I don’t think this was intentionally set up for Kelsey to fail, but this is an unfortunate turn of events. I do love how Charles was so supportive of Kelsey in this episode; encouraging her, bolstering her accomplishments, and trying to help her succeed. It will be interesting to see where we go from here. Tune in with me next week to find out!
