The Flash Episode 15
What happens when you mix The Flash with Speed, you get FlashTime and one of the most emotional episodes of the season.
It was nice to have a break from Devoe. The only part I was sad about was that Ralph wasn’t in this episode. I think even though he can be annoying at times, he is the only voice of reason on the team. He is afraid to be a superhero and he is afraid of death, but he is also afraid of being alone. The bravery he shows in the face of his fears makes the show interesting and grounded.
Now onto FlashTime:
The episode starts with Barry telling Iris he can’t save them. Then we go to ten minutes earlier and Barry and Iris are having a talk about needing some husband and wife time when Joe calls.
The police, while escorting A.R.G.U.S agents, got attacked and they need Barry’s help. When Barry gets there he finds out that a nuclear bomb is going to explode.
The episode literally takes place within the ten minute time frame making every motion Barry makes important.
Barry and Iris
Emotional is the only word I can come up with. The fact that even in the face of a nuclear blast these two find knowledge with each other. Iris figuring out about the speed force and Barry trusting her is a bond that those two share that none of the other couples in the Arrow-verse have.
I also love the fact that even though Iris wanted a date night, she was just fine laying in the medical bay with Barry. The connection between those two are magical and I hope we continue getting even more Barry and Iris domestic scenes.
Harry and Jesse
Another very important piece of the episode was the relationship building between Harry and his daughter Jesse (played by Violett Beane).
We learn that Harry was kicked off Jesse’s team because she felt he was using it as a way not to talk about his wife’s death.
The loss of a loved one is hard and it showed how different people cope with loss differently. In the end they found common ground and were able to connect with one another.
Jay Garrick
We saw the rerun of Jay Garrick (played by John Wesley Shipp). I know a lot of people won’t agree with me, but he really didn’t have an useful part in this episode. All he did was complain and then retire. The only thing we found out from him – he was training a woman on Earth Three to take his place. I feel he was just added to appease fans who wanted him to come back around again.
Caitlin and Killer Frost
Nothing big here, but the fact Caitlin remembered that Killer Frost asked Barry to make sure she lived must play into the story somewhere down the line.
Mystery wedding guest shows up again
And again – it really doesn’t give us much of a clue as to who she is. As much as I love a good mystery, this one has gone on way too long. The fact she meant to run into Caitlin and Harry of course wasn’t a coincidence and we know she has something to do with the speed force. I really wish they would just let us in on the secret before it becomes a not-so-interesting fact.
Final thoughts
When Devoe isn’t around, the episode seems to be more interesting. Hopefully soon, many of the big questions will be answered. I think some have dragged on way too long as stated above.
Next week we finally get to see Iris with super powers. Though only for one episode, it will be wonderful to see her out on the field and being the hero she has always been, even without powers.
