Captivating new drama Found premieres October 3rd on NBC.
Shanola Hampton stars in and produces new NBC drama Found. Set in Washington D.C., Hampton plays Gabi Mosely, owner of a public relations firm specializing in crisis management. Gabi’s team has a unique skillset related to the rescue of missing persons.
Things to note:
Each team member has a history with missing persons, whether it be themselves or someone they love. We slowly learn the stories of trauma endured by each character and how that enhances their ability to search for the missing.
Gabi’s firm takes special interest in finding missing persons who might otherwise be overlooked or forgotten. For Gabi, any missing person deserves her best work including those often marginalized by society.
The firm’s relationship with the local police is tested on a regular basis as protocols and procedures do not always align between the two organizations. There also appears to be a romantic history between Gabi and Detective Mark Trent (played by Brett Dalton) that leaves us guessing.
What to expect:
As a procedural, there tends to be closure in the episodes with other long-running storylines unfolding more slowly along the way. While the tactical maneuvers are impressive, there is an emotional element beyond the relief when someone is found. Kelli Williams’ portrayal of Margaret Reed, a mother whose son has never been found, is particularly heart-wrenching. Yet in spite of, or perhaps because of her circumstances, she chooses to work on Gabi’s team, using the hyper vigilante observation skills she has acquired in her own search to also help others.
Expect frequent flashbacks to Gabi’s time being held captive by Mark-Paul Gosselaar’s character who goes simply (and eerily!) by “Sir”. The scenes with Sir and young Gabi are particularly engaging as we try to sort out the nature of Sir’s intentions. Flashforward to the present and Gabi tells the world that her time of captivity is behind her. She says she is okay even though Sir has never been apprehended by the police. Later, we come to learn that her captor is not far away at all.
Found provides a good mix of resolution in each episode in addition to story threads that will take longer to unravel. Shanola Hampton gives a commanding lead performance. Mark-Paul Gosselaar gives an unsettling one that keeps us guessing. Check it out!
