Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for The Bone Collector Season Finale
Life is better when you have friends by your side, even if you’re master Detective Lincoln Rhyme. In the two-hour season finale, Lincoln and his team learn a lot about themselves and others. We also lost a couple of good officers along the way:
Agent Cutter (played by Tracie Thoms)
She was the first victim in Peter’s new sick game of revenge. He had her tied up in the boxing ring where Lincoln trained. She was bleeding out. Amelia went to save her but realized that it was booby-trapped. If they got close or she stood up, the pipes would burst to cause the person to be burned alive.
Amelia swore she would save Cutter and because she didn’t want Amelia to kill herself, Cutter stood up and took one for the team. Both Amelia and I were devastated. I really liked her.
Detective Eric Castillo (played by Ramses Jimenez)
Det. Castillo was tasked with taking care of Lincoln’s family in hiding. When Peter pulls them over in a stolen cruiser, his life goes from bad to worse. He is shot in the neck during a shoot out with Peter, and just before he dies in Sellitto’s arms, he says,” watch.”
This was a death I wasn’t expecting. I would’ve loved to see things grow with his character. The memorial at the end when Amelia calls in the 1084 to announce an officer fell while on duty and dispatch announces Castillo is 1042, gone but not forgotten broke my heart. I am so glad Lincoln went to his funeral.
The others were emotionally hurt.
Detective Michael Silletto
After being jumped by Peter and hung up on a roof, Sellitto got seriously ill from poison. Now, this was serious, but we got one of my favorite scenes of the series out of it. Lincoln visits Sellitto in the hospital and speaks of how he now understands that Sellitto wasn’t always pushing him because he was his partner but because he was his friend.
The moment Lincoln said that he was there for their friendship as well, my heart melted. The character growth for Lincoln was amazing in just two episodes.
We also see Silletto feeling like a failure because he didn’t see Peter coming. It is not only Lincoln starting to break from the games Peter is playing.
Officer Amelia Sachs
Amelia faced her parent’s murder when Peter’s clues sent them to the restaurant where they were killed. The flashback scenes were eye-opening and gave us a glimpse into Amelia’s otherwise personal life. When Peters’s bomb goes off with Amelia still in the restaurant, I was sure they killed her off to push Lincoln over the edge.
Was I wrong?
She had placed the camera in front of the bomb and got out before it went off. Smart girl. Now for the big piece of the pie.
Lincoln and Peter
Lincoln is now refusing to use the term Bone Collector now that they know who he is. After Peter breaks into his home and threatens to put Claire outside, knowing that that’s her greatest fear, he ends up having to run because of Amelia and her team getting there. But not before Peter lets us know that this all started because he blames Lincoln for getting released from the academy. Lincoln pushed Peter out of the way and announced the killer in class.
Power of Friendship
When Peter kidnaps Lincoln’s son and sets up a trap for Lincoln the same as three years back, Lincoln realizes he needs his whole team behind him if he wants to save his boy. This is where the quality of the finale drops a bit.
The quick defeat of Peter by Lincoln was sort of a letdown. This smart guy who had outsmarted him for eight years was quickly taken down. I know the death of his wife left him vulnerable, but it seemed rushed to me.
As wonderful as the finale was, it wasn’t my all-time favorite. Just when we think it’s over…
A Package Arrives
When the package that Peter sent to Lincoln with a final clue finally arrives at the bar, it shocks us all.
Even more shocking, there’s a ringing phone inside. When Amelia picks it up, a male voice is on the other end and tells them that he wants to play a game with Lincoln. He asks Lincoln to solve the murder that was about to happen outside.
Team Lincoln rushes out, and a woman’s body falls onto a parked car. I guess Team Lincoln has another case meaning that hopefully, we will get a second season.
Final Thoughts
Even though the first season finale wasn’t as strong as I would’ve hoped, the fact that in ten episodes they presented such a complex set of emotions and cases, I can see this show lasting for a long time.
Let’s hope NBC agrees and renews Lincoln for a second exciting season.
