FBI Season 2: What is to Come?
FBI, no doubt, had a successful first season. The Dick Wolf production captured the attention of procedural fans, from the characters to the action, and the exciting storylines. With season two less than two weeks away, let’s take a quick look back on season one.
A Look Back at Season 1
We met the team who stole our hearts. Special Agent Maggie Bell, a still-grieving widow, determined to make a name for herself in her job. Omar Adom “OA” Zidan, retired Army veteran with knowledge of explosives.
Assistant Special Agent in Charge, Jubal Valentine (and of course, his Pencil—have you seen the fan pages for that pencil?!), known for his witty comments and honesty about prior alcohol addiction. Analyst Kristen Chazal who is on top of her game yet yearns to be in the field as an agent. And finally to round out the team, Special Agent in Charge Dana Mosier, a skilled profiler and mentor to Maggie.
Season one focused on showcasing the characters, how they worked together and evolved over time. From explosions to arms dealers, bomb threats, and everything in between: there was never a dull moment. It also focused on the shock of finding out Maggie’s husband didn’t die in an accident but was murdered! The thrilling finale led us to her killer and justice for Maggie’s conscience.
The show did so well that Dick Wolf created a spin-off series to follow it: FBI: Most Wanted. The latter half of the season featured a backdoor pilot focused on LaCroix’s team and the challenging cases they investigate.
We even found out that Kristen was headed for agent training, and perhaps the biggest shock thus far: AIC Mosier was leaving to retire.
Now:
What does that mean for season two?
I was disappointed to hear that Sela Ward would not reprise her character in season two, but it does open up the floor to see if Valentine will step up, or if a new AIC will be introduced. Personally, I enjoy Valentine out in the field as it delves into a part of his character we don’t get to see as often. He’s an excellent agent, skilled in both interrogation but also equally suave and an asset to his team.
Bringing a new AIC in changes the team dynamic and may propose challenges for characters down the line. It was clear that Mosier favored Agent Bell in season one. What will happen if the new AIC likes OA more?
It also has been revealed that Isobel Castille has been promoted to series regular in season two, under the role as Assistant AIC. This may mean that Valentine has taken Mosier’s spot.
And what about Analyst Kristen? We see her in the field in some photos that CBS has released thus far to promote the show. Has she left her role as an analyst or is she only helping out as last season? We also met another Agent in the last few episodes of season one who I would like to see again. It would seem that a team such as Maggie and OA’s would not only have two Special Agents. Will we see more introduced?
Storyline
CBS recently released an exciting promo for the show. It seems as if the case hits home for OA, as it involves the neighborhood in which he grew up. Assistant AIC Castille tells OA in the clip she does not care about process, but results. OA holds a temper, will this line of thinking cause him to act irrationally? The clip ends with a vulnerable moment for his character.

Otherwise, we have not seen too much in terms of storyline hinted by the actors or those behind the scenes. But if season two is anything like season one, it would seem we are in for one hell of a ride.
