The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
A new season has started and the good girl Sabrina is slowly turning into the dark witch of her ancestors. So how did Sabrina, her family and friends fare in the first two episode of the second part. “Chapter 12: The Epiphany” and “chapter 13: The Passion of Sabrina Spellman.
Sabrina Spellman (played by Kiernan Shipka)
Head Boy
After signing her name in the dark lords book. Sabrina decides that its to dangerous to be around her mortal friends. And becomes a full time student at The Academy of Unseen Arts.
And the first morning assembly just happens to be about choosing the new head boy.
The first nomination is Sabrina’s friend Nicholas Scratch (played by Gavin Leatherwood). And at first there is no other candidate. That is until Sabrina steps in.
And even though Father Faustus Blackwood (played by Richard Coyle) tries to tell her she can’t. She lets him know there’s no rules that says she can’t. And as that is true she also becomes a candidate.
This they have a three challenge spellbinding showcase.
The Trials, boil and bubble , and conjuring:
The Inquisition
The night before the inquisition, Nicholas is treated to a boys club night out. While Sabrina is stuck at the library studying.
Where she is attacked by the demon Asmodeus. Who she is able to banish. Even though she’s unable to get any studying done, she wins the first challenge with the help of Prudence.
Boil and Bubble
On her way home from a meeting with father Blackwood, she is attacked by a second demon and banishes him with a whistle.
When she finally gets home that night, her aunt Hilda tries to teach her potions.
But, in the end, she loses and is forced to drink her bad potion. And while she is sick at home, her aunt tells her about Suzie trying to make the men’s basketball team. And tells her she should go support her
Suzies tryouts
While watching Suzies tryouts, Sabrina uses magic to help Suzie make the baskets and make the team.
While she’s leaving the school she gets attacked by the demon Beezlebub that Mary Wardwell /Lilith (played by Michelle Gomez) saves her from.
Confronting Nicholas
After Wardwell gives her the idea it was a conjurer. Sabrina confronts Nicholas who is a rival and studying to be a conjurer.
And finds out not even he is strong enough to conjure them, they devise a plan.
The final test: Conjuring
At the conjuring her and Nicholas conjure the three demons asking who sent them.
They tell everyone that they came on their own to stop Sabrina from rising to. And at that father Blackwood banishes them.
And they are both disqualified and her cousin Ambrose is made into a full time student and head boy.
A Visit From the dark lord
The next night Sabrina is woken up by the dark lord, who made a bet with Lilith that he could make Sabrina evil. telling her to steal a pack of gum.
But when she goes to steal the gum, she hesitates and Wardwell is able to stop her.
A second task
After she fails to do that, while she’s at school helping with a play about the dark lord and Lilith, He tells her to drop one of the stage bags on Dorcas, who is playing Lilith, because it’s her role.
After refusing to do that he makes her choke on a apple. And when she wakes up at home, her aunt Hilda (played by Lucy Davis) tells her the dark lords pressure will be lessened by going back to Baxter high.
Back at Baxter high
Returning to Baxter high, she learns that Suzie finally became comfortable with his real transgender self and is now going by Theo,
Romeo and Juliet
She also learns that her drama class is doing Romeo and Juliet. And that Harvey (played by Ross Lynch) is Romeo and paired with her friend Roz. Who is Juliet
The Dark Lords Wrath
As she continues to ignore him, the more he makes it so she has to.
First he gives Roz the chicken pox, which with her partner hurt after she gave Theo a rope to hurt a bully named Billy. Which he uses to make him trip down the stairs with the dark lords influence. She is paired with Harvey
A night of passion almost
As they practice their lines at Harvey’s house, things get heated between them. And they go up to Harvey’s room, and as she’s taking off his shirt she sees the claw-marks that have been appearing on her on Harvey.
She immediately stops, and they get Into an argument. And sadly we see the final straw broken between her and Harvey.
No more ignoring
Later on she finds Salem either dying or dead and the dark lord tells her to save her friends and Salem she has to burn down an empty Baxter high and she agrees
But right before doing so the dark lord stops her and tells her it was just a test.
Plays
Though she gets out of the one at Baxter high because Roz is better. She ends up having to play Lilith, cause Dorcas gets the chicken pox all of a sudden.
Things get heated between her and Nick during the play and as they are sitting and talking afterwards, nick tells Sabrina that she should embrace who she is, like they all did.
The last scene of episode two shows Sabrina going in and finally stealing that pack of gum. She is finally ready to go all in for the dark lord.
Theo Putnam (played by Lachlan Watson)
We see Suzie embrace the person that he always knew he was. And change from Suzie to Theo.
Though we see people mostly accepting it, the Basketball team does not.
He is mocked and basically chased out of the men’s locker room and forced to change in the woman’s locker room.
As a transgender man also, it’s really cool to see this teenage character be so brave, open and accepting of himself. Even though it’s a teen character, for this adult he’s a role model
Rosalind Walker (played by Jax Sinclair)
We see her growing feelings for Harvey. But this young woman has more class than most and is unwilling to be with him until she knows where him and Sabrina are.
She also had a vision of her making out with Harvey in-front of her locker
Ambrose Spellman (played by Chance Perdomo)
We start to also see a darker side of him. As we see him trying to fit in with the other men at the school instead of being supportive towards Sabrina during the trials.
We also learn he’s a polytheist as he goes off with Prudence(played by Tati Gabrielle) for a night of fun.
I think he is starting to wonder about his boyfriend Luke’s alliances as well.
Zelda Spellman (Miranda Otto)
We she her becoming her own woman as she tells father Blackwood that until he’s done mourning and can be with her for real they can’t sleep together either.
She also gets the other faculty members to start respecting her again.
Final thoughts
This was a great start to a second part. Though some things seemed odd, like Sabrina stealing gum at the end of the episode. These two episodes have a lot to offer and I can’t wait for more!
