Big Brother 21 has arrived!

Hello BB fans! Summer has officially begun!

BB 21 kicked off Tuesday night with 16 new houseguests moving into the house. If you don’t know anything about the HG’s check out my previous piece here. Like every season of Big Brother, we meet our host, the incomparable Julie Chen Moonves.

This time she tells us there will be a “game changing” and “unprecedented power” given out right away. Let’s get right to business, shall we?

And so it begins…

The HG’s all enter the house and 2 of them quickly realize they are not strangers. Tommy and Christie actually know each other in real life.  Christie dated Tommy’s aunt for 7 years and apparently it did not end well.  This could be awkward, but they feign unfamiliarity, and it keep it all under wraps.

After introductions and some champagne on the BB couch, the houseguests are definitely feeling each other, and some are already eyeing possible showmance prospects.  As expected, all of the ladies are swooning over Jack. I mean, can you blame them?!

Julie announces the first power of the season: Camp Director. All of the houseguests will have to vote on who obtains this preliminary role. Cliff, David, Jessica and Jackson all stand up to “campaign” to the house. Jessica quickly feels like she has this in the bag, but Jackson throws a wrench in her plans and rallies a majority of the house to win the Camp Director position.

At the end of this first episode, Jackson finds out he must nominate 4 people for banishment? What will this mean? Julie tells us that all 4 will go head-to-head in a battle and only 3 will return to the house. As the episode ends, the camera pans out over some distraught faces. Goodnight Houseguests…

Wednesday night…

begins with the question, who will Jackson choose for banishment? Of course, everyone wants to get an opportunity to talk to Jackson to secure their spot in the house. Well, all except Kemi. She boldly states she has no reason to “kiss his butt” because he hasn’t done anything for her yet. This will prove to be a huge mistake for her!

Jackson strikes me as a very conniving and deliberate player. I don’t think he needs any help deciding what to do, but he pretends to need Jack and Bella to make the decision on who to banish. He ends up telling David he wants to use him as a pawn, which David knows is not a smart plan.

Pawns are never safe in Big Brother.

In the end, after a corny squirrel-abducting scene, the 4 chosen are: Cliff, Jessica, David and Kemi (shocker!!).

The 4 compete in a night-time competition to get back to the house.  The backyard is pitch black and transformed into the woods. Surprisingly, Cliff is the 1st one to make it back, Kemi following him, and Jessica takes the final spot. David is stopped by Julie and told he will leave the house “for now.” What does this mean? Apparently, we will find out on the next live show. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for him because he is an early favorite of mine.

Back in the house, Christie and Tommy finally have a chance to talk alone. They solidify their alliance and have each other’s backs in the game. Speaking of alliances, that isn’t the only one brewing. Jackson, Jack, Nick, Bella, Holly and Christie decide to form a 6-person alliance (no name as of yet). This alliance could be a good one; however, if Christie is truly aligned with Tommy, it could be interesting to see how she plays both of these to her favor.

Winner winner…

Finally, we get to the 1st HOH Competition of the season! All the players head out to the back yard in their camp jerseys and are quickly paired up by the Camp Director, Jackson (now AKA Michie). All they need to do is hang on to a log for as long as possible. Even though they are paired up, it’s still an individual comp to win.

One by one they drop (in order): Jessica, Jack, Cat, Nick, Ovi (throws it), Sam, Kemi, Cliff, Bella, Nicole (unconvincingly drops), Analiese, Holly, Tommy and finally Christie wins HOH! I’m not sure if Tommy dropped for her or not, but she wins the 1st HOH of the season.

Tune in Sunday night 8/7c to see who she nominates for eviction and also to hear about the new twist “whack-tivity competition.”

Tuesday is the veto competition/meeting and Wednesday is the 1st live eviction. And don’t forget we get to find out what is going on with David. I cannot wait! Until then, BB fans…
